Anyone else think the wrong potter bit the dust tonight?

Parsley3 Mon 01-Mar-21 10:47:13

By not following the brief the two potters made their work impossible to judge. A rooky mistake for the young man but Sal should have known better. She voted herself off. A pity as I had her marked out to win.

I was interested in the new kiln girl, Rose, so just Googled her.

Oh dear my 2 favourites ? lost interest in it now.

I actually Googled Native American Acoma pottery to see some images and the situation is not as clear cut as they make out. Although none have a lip like Sal's there are a few variations including one that looks like a frill. It's not a regular thing but if variations are allowed her going was so wrong.

I liked Sal and thought she was a brilliant potter but I do think she was a bit over confident and saw herself as the winner
Peters was good last night but he’s not consistent he can be very good or very poor
I d like to see Adam win

Only one person should have gone. I was shouting at the tele. The best potter (I think you all know who I mean). Should not have gone.

She didn't follow the brief. She said herself that she wanted to make a Sal pot and not the one wanted by the judges. The judges did mention at the start that at least one potter would go home. It makes the right number for the semi-final as there was one week when nobody went home.

Sarnia Mon 01-Mar-21 08:29:01

At the start of this week's programme the potters were told at least one potter would go home so that should have given them a warning that they had to follow the instructions. However, both Alon and Sal thought they would ignore the brief so, quite rightly, they had to go. I was delighted for Peter. His pots were lovely and deserved their place in the Potter of the Week gallery.

I think/know that it's very hard to judge.
At this late stage, the quality of the work was so good across the 6 so as Casdon has said, they had to use other criteria like sticking to the brief.

The 2 who left will have made enough of a mark to be remembered anyway.
I once was asked to judge fancy dress costume at a children's Halloween party. There were a number of wonderful little witches so I chose the one whose front teeth had fallen out as she looked so authentic!

Gingster Mon 01-Mar-21 08:22:28

Oooops! Was t I supposed to say the name ? Sorry ?

Gingster Mon 01-Mar-21 08:19:15

I was surprised Sal went but she didn’t follow the brief. Wanted to make her own version of the pots. Not the point. Got too big for her boots

LullyDully Mon 01-Mar-21 08:18:12

It would be I interesting to know how they got into pottery. I hadn't realised that Jodie was a nurse. She makes the most beautiful pots.

(Two had to go to make up for the week when no one went. )

Casdon Mon 01-Mar-21 08:13:23

Maybe just a bit Blubelle. I didn’t agree with the decision last night, but you could see the logic behind it, as both the pots were good, but they hadn’t followed the brief, I think it was the first time that had happened. I guess that’s a capital offence which was why they both had to go.

BlueBelle Mon 01-Mar-21 07:46:05

Didn’t you know that before you started watching merlotgran ALL the programmes are set ups even the ones where people seem spontaneously funny is all practiced beforehand I m sure they know the winner before it starts !! Or am I being an old sceptic

shysal Mon 01-Mar-21 07:43:29

Agree last night's result was a shock. There had been no mention of the possibility of a double departure!

merlotgran Mon 01-Mar-21 07:39:03

I won't bother watching any more. The whole thing is a contrived set up.

Like Bake Off.

Ooh! - Mystery - I'm just watching now - my type of reality show.

Grammaretto Sun 28-Feb-21 23:07:12

I was shocked by the judges' decision tonight. How could they!

BlueBelle Sun 28-Feb-21 22:25:18

Actually I think anyone who hasn’t watched it should not read this thread I always think it’s a bit tiptoeing to complain about spoilers it’s up to them not to be peeping If I see a headline of a programme I haven’t yet watched I wouldn’t read it as there’s obviously going to be spoilers
I don’t find Adam at all smug I think he’s very talented and actually not an attention seeker like some tidy quite underrated in my opinion I don’t really rate Peters work that much although he did well tonight
The point was both who left did not stick to the script they added their own bits and pieces which got them the push

trisher Sun 28-Feb-21 22:24:51

But Henry's water feature was a disaster! X's pots were not

Casdon Sun 28-Feb-21 22:16:49

trisher exactly the same thing happened to Henry last week?

tidyskatemum I have heard of spoilers, but we didn’t do that in previous weeks on this thread, unless you just mean keep it secret just for an hour until 10 - of course that’s fine, I just hadn’t realised?

ixion Sun 28-Feb-21 22:05:04

Thank you, much appreciated (tho' I know now it's female?)

tidyskatemum Sun 28-Feb-21 22:01:44

Casdon we’re keeping the secret from anyone who is going to watch this week’s episode on catch-up. Never heard of spoilers?

trisher Sun 28-Feb-21 22:00:27

Of course she was the best potter. How can you win one section and get chucked out? Unbelievable!

LadyGracie Sun 28-Feb-21 21:59:15

She definitely shouldn't have gone, what a shock, but as she said herself, 'I should have stuck to the brief '
