Too Close.

I really enjoyed this and I am glad I stuck with it as the first episode was so unpleasant. However, the mistakes were glaring. A professional would not take a bag, phone and lighter into a secure unit. That was artistic licence. The ending was very satisfying though as it tied up all the loose ends.

I'm still working my way through this, but am finding it really annoying that a professional person would be portrayed in that way. She comes across as very weak and easily manipulated. She allows the patient to take control of the sessions, asking her personal questions instead of the other way round. Echoes of Silence of the Lambs I thought, and the relationship between Hopkins and Foster, where he tries to take control.

Just started watching the first episode. I'm rather enjoying it.

That was quite an eye opener.
Excellent acting all round.
So can anyone explain what would happen to her in real life in the long term?

I know I've rather over simplified the whole drama there

It was BRILLIANT and fantastic acting
Loved it and sad it’s done but I do like the episodes in a row I haven’t got time to forget it

I thought it was really well portrayed tbh and GP's do need to be careful about what they prescribe. I self harmed after being prescribed paroxetine ( a long time go) and have never self harmed before OR after stopping taking it, it made me really unwell.

Good acting by the two leads, but the best thing about it was Skeeter Davies’ great song.

I’m part way through episode 2. The two female leads are superb
Dramatic licence of course but as others have said, secure psychiatric units, psychiatrists don’t work as portrayed
Ellianne - the drive off the bridge wasn’t ‘to spite’ anyone. I suspect part of a psychotic breakdown

Gave it 20 minutes, then gave up.

I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode and it should tie up all the loose ends .?
I did think there would be more security , but it is a drama and much better than the recent dramas that have been on.

I m loving it and think it’s wonderfully acted but I do agree Granmamet it’s not at all what would happen between psychiatrist and their patient I have a close family also in the field who was fairly shock with the inaccuracies but that person is still watching because they think it’s a good drama using artistic license

Well, I think it is excellent!

The bridge she drove off is very near me.
I had high hopes for this but was disappointed although the acting wad brilliant

I think the whole thing is probably a bit unlikely, but I do think it is an intriguing story, the acting is amazing, and it makes a change from the usual cop story.

My daughter, who is a psychiatrist, was horrified at the whole thing. No, you wouldn’t be able to take all your personal stuff into a secure unit. You are so used to being insulted that it wouldn’t produce a reaction at all. You would not be alone with a patient like that, etc, etc. She stopped watching very quickly.

Mind you, I think people do often dislike how their profession is portrayed on tv and in films, just for dramatic effect.

Well I couldn't stop watching this last night. I thought the acting was amazing. I was gripped by the portrayal of grief without recourse to overacting in fact the acting was so subtle by the psychiatrist. I was very moved by the whole episode it tou9ched something very deep for me.

And what is the psychiatrist going to do about the lorry driver?

I managed about 40 minutes then moved on. Much too depressing and sometimes even harrowing for me. I found something lighter elsewhere.

I enjoyed it, intriguing!
