Oh come on Sharpe the same as Ned Starke and Mark in Time? He's been in so many things. Why does anyone expect an actor to be pleasant? You don't have to be pleasant to act well.

Time was very good. Best thing SN has done IMO. However I disagree he’s a ‘great actor’. He’s a bloke from Sheffield who plays exactly the same part for every role. I was at a charity function where he was a guest. He was a quite unpleasant person. And he’s a blade which says it all ??

Wow! Chestnut
I think it all depends where there is space in prisons. They are massively over crowded.

silverlining48 - try and find 'Lady Chatterley' (1993 TV serial) which is amazing. I think it's on BritBox, on DVD and was on Drama channel but not any more.

I haven't seen the last episode yet, but I always wondered exactly how drugs and phones got inside prisons. Maybe they should have random frequent dog sniffing sessions round the prison, that would find the drugs instantly.
It also seems that prisoners like Sean Bean's character should not be inside with the violent ones. Surely committing a driving offence qualifies him to be in an open prison? He is a first time offender and no danger to the public. Why put him with all those hardened criminals? Surely they know who is violent and dangerous and can keep those types together?

And those breeches as well trisher he cut such a dashing figure in Sharpe.

I will, thanks.

silverlining48 Find the "Sharpe" series and watch to find out about Sean Bean. It's a great way to spend a wet afternoon and he was gorgeous. Still a fantastic actor. And great in this.
Stephen Graham is such a good actor.
Time is great if a bit of a hard watch.

Pittcity

I think you'll be ok nfk.
There's even talk of a follow on series to find out what happened next!!

Thanks Pitt, I'll binge watch it then when Best Beloved is out! (If I can stand the angst)

We have resisted the understandable temptation to binge watch on i player. This is a really disturbing series, the dark filming conveys the claustrophobia, the smells of all those men crammed together; the testosterone, the sweat, feet, cell toilets.....the episode last night with the murderer facing his victim's parents was powerful, and all the more so for not having a happy ending. The sheer waste of life, not only of the victim and his parents, but of the murderer and all because of £1.20. All those damaged men feeding off each other's fear.

Stop digging now silverlining or you may have to be excommunicated grin

This was an excellent drama. The three hard hitting episodes were just right in length. A longer series or even a follow up would spoil the impact. It's complete in itself. Full marks to the writer and all cast.

silverlining48 Mon 14-Jun-21 09:26:16

I have heard of a Sean penn though (but wouldn’t recognise him)grin

I am afraid I also join that small select crowd!!!
I am so looking forward to the last episode next Sunday. I have seen Stephen Graham before but I had no idea of his name.

When I was working we visited a prison once and it has always been on my mind. The floor and prisoners were obviously carefully chosen, I sat beside one fellow on his bunk bed chatting and the prison officers showed us the artwork of a 1st class forger- his work was brilliant.

I digress, there should be classes for prisoners so that they will be employable on exit. Many cannot read or write and that should be addressed or it becomes a never ending circle.

Greyduster Mon 14-Jun-21 08:44:22

Nannatwiglet I do that often and had no idea! I’ll pay more attention next time! Sean Bean played a baddie with a very cut glass accent in a James Bond movie. It didn’t suit him somehow. “Time” is a very sobering watch. What a spiral of decline......

Dryginger Mon 14-Jun-21 08:28:19

WHAT!!!!!Never heard of the man god Sean Bean!!!??

sodapop Mon 14-Jun-21 08:22:27

Never heard of Sean Bean I'm shocked silverlininggrin

It's a brilliant series, looking forward to seeing how it ends next week so no spoilers please.

silverlining48 Mon 14-Jun-21 08:06:47

It was an excellent drama, very disturbing in part, inspiring in others, but probably fairly true to life. For the first time we watched the last episode, instead of waiting another week, just needed to know.
No plot spoilers though from me.
Ps I had never heard of Sean Bean....

Nannatwiglet Sun 13-Jun-21 22:45:31

For those who wish to “listen” to Sean Bean…travel on the trams in Sheffield! His voice is used for the passenger destinations!

NfkDumpling Sun 13-Jun-21 22:22:29

And I agree Dryginger that there's definitely something about a man in a nice white shirt!

NfkDumpling Sun 13-Jun-21 22:21:00

I've recorded it, and watched a bit of the first episode. Does it have a reasonably happy ending? I'm not sure I can take it if something awful happens to Seany Babe!

Jane43 Sun 13-Jun-21 22:12:59

This was undoubtedly an excellent production but it was so hard to watch. I’m sure it was a realistic portrayal of prison life and I think I would find it very hard to cope with a member of my family being in prison.

Mary59nana Thu 10-Jun-21 16:45:54

Just finished watching as binge watch and found it compelling and omg frightening.
Love Sean Bean as a actor and he was brilliant my heart went out to him along with frustration at his lack of courage to stand his ground.
Well done BBC for a very good drama

Dryginger Thu 10-Jun-21 10:26:22

I love Sean Bean too and in that Yorkshire tea ad he looks gorgous in his shirt. Theres is something about a man in a nice plain shirt.
