Ok, am I the only one who hates tennis?

Wimbledon bores me rigid. The gasping and grunting with every shot really grinds my gears. I have never really been into spectator sports but sitting there for hours at Wimbledon watching a ball go back and forth, back and forth, and then if it rains there is a risk that Cliff Richard will get to his feet and sing shock No thanks. It is the sheer tedium of it

Hey, but live and let live eh?

Coggers94 Thu 01-Jul-21 11:41:04

I actually live near the grounds. Normally I try to go away for the second week but as we are not allowed to travel I'm stuck with it. Roll on next weekend when all is done for another year. Tennis bores me to tears.

It annoys me that both BBC 1 and 2 are devoted to tennis. I miss my afternoon dose of Escape to the country. 3pm is my cut of point during the day for tea and biscuits and a rest so i can carry on with my day. No wonder the weather always seems to turn Wimbledon Week

I have no interest in sport at all, would rather read a good book. Where we used to live e had a tennis club at the end of the garden. always getting balls in our garden, the players never thought to ask if they could collect them, just walked all over the garden. Our neighbour used to collect them up and then throw them over the fence when they had a tournament, apart from that what went on the clubhouse definitely was not tennis!!

What annoys me greatly is that I am NOT a sports fan of any kind ....can we get a refund of the exorbitant TV licence for having nothing else decent to watch (and I don't count endless repeats of Mamma Mia (1 and 2), and all the other films ..having to watch Downton Abbey AGAIN on Channel 10 ......I have some good books to catch up on so all is not lost ......

The only advantage to actually being at Wimbledon is the exercise it gives your neck. Watching it on TV doesn’t even do that.

Oh sorry Lucca I'm sure I turned over and it was on both!!

It seems to be all sport on TV at the mo, what with Euro footbal, Wimbledon, and cricket. I feel so good deciding not to watch TV and go outside for a walk instead.

It’s awful. Tedious and populated by some utter snobs. All that “come on Tim” stuff in cut glass accents. Bleugh.
As for Murray…. Off button used a lot at this time of year ….

Why bother with the ‘On’ button at all?

Does anybody remember a Children’s TV programme over 30 years ago called “ Why Don't You? or Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set and Go and Do Something Less Boring Instead?
A BBC children's television series broadcast in 42 series between 20 August 1973 and 21 April 1995.
Still good advice.

I don't like any sport that has balls in it; no matter what shape or size they are.

nanna8 Thu 01-Jul-21 09:39:21

I only like it when my country is still in it.

It probably helps if you play/ have played tennis. I’m off to hit the ball into the net!! I’ve been taking notes on how the great players serve.

Bit of a sweeping generalisation ! Do you mean the crowd or the players !

We were looking forward to watching The Repair Shop tonight but the tennis over ran and it wasn't on angry Does it have to be on both channels? What with the Euros, I'm fed up.

I have an off button and when the women’s matches start grunting and gasping I press it, I’m sure they only do it to intimidate the opponent, it should be stopped.
Men’s tennis is good, well done Andy, best of luck next round

BigBertha1 Thu 01-Jul-21 06:08:27

I don't mind a bit of it but when it's the ladies base line to base line bashing I tend to drop off

Nicegranny Thu 01-Jul-21 01:50:03

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes

I was waiting for ‘new balls please’ following that slip Lucca

Andy Murray’s body language gets me down.when it is going wrong he completely droops … (that’s not a cheeky reference to his fall and injured area)
I feel kind of bad for his opponent when the crowd cheer even an unforced error.

Oops..wrong thread sorry tennis haters !,

TrendyNannie6 Wed 30-Jun-21 21:01:27

Not a fan of tennis ?

MayBee70 Wed 30-Jun-21 21:01:13

Sad to see Tsonga go out. Love him.

One of the greatest pleasures in life for me is watching Rafa Nadal or David Goffin or Stan Wawrinka or any other good sportsperson play a match.

On the other hand I have never got the grasp of cricket.
