Ok, am I the only one who hates tennis?

Wimbledon bores me rigid. The gasping and grunting with every shot really grinds my gears. I have never really been into spectator sports but sitting there for hours at Wimbledon watching a ball go back and forth, back and forth, and then if it rains there is a risk that Cliff Richard will get to his feet and sing shock No thanks. It is the sheer tedium of it

You aren't alone. Eating my own entrails would be more enticing than watching a tennis match. Or football either.

Tennis, football, motor racing, rugby, I can't be doing with any of these. They should be moved to a single sports channel (I only have Freeview and terrestrial) especially on a weekend. Whatever happened to family films on Saturday and Sunday afternoons?

Today tennis is on BBC1 and BBC2, racing on ITV and rugby on C4. angry

I'm with you on tennis. I too find it boring.

Gillt57 I suppose you are not the only who hates tennis, but there are millions of us who look forward avidly to Wimbledon fortnight, me being one of them. No one is forcing you to watch it and I can’t understand how for a short period of time people can be so intolerant when there a multitude of channels to watch. I dislike many programmes that are currently on tv, but I don’t have to watch them, so each one to their own.

Its fine having football and tennis etc on tv but does it really have to be on all the mainstream channels - and the main items on the News?

Mind you, we've been watching Are You Being Served and Open All Hours and remembering how good they are. Just need to time making the coffee with the interminable ad breaks.

At least people have catchup now and there’s always so much to watch I can never keep up with it. And Sky Arts is brilliant.

Goodness what a lot of moaning and whingeing
Lucca. Agreed!
Here's an idea! Initiate a parallel thread called something like
"Sports I Like" and show a few examples such as;
Basketball
Tennis
Golf
Caber tossing
Curling
etc.
i.e. be positive rather than negative! grin
That would free up loads of extra space whilst us avid Soccer, Rugby, Cricket fans could watch in peace and harmony, free of constant bickering, thus projecting a picture of Happy Families! Good idea!?
Good Health

Love Rugby Union too.

Craftycat Fri 02-Jul-21 10:12:23

Sorry but I love tennis. Not Cliif singing though!!.
I love the atmosphere although I have never been to Wimbledon. My mother went almost every day when I was young & I had school lunches which I thought was a huge treat as we lived very close to my primary school & I went home for lunch. I cannot stand football so I am cheering in sitting room while DH is watching football (ugh!) in his office.
Hears hoping for a dry day today.

I don't watch tennis, cricket, rugby, athletics, swimming confused rarely watch football. It just doesn't interest me. I do admire how hard sports people work to be on top of their game though

Shropshirelass Fri 02-Jul-21 08:26:34

No, I am not interested in tennis either. I never enjoyed playing it and find it very boring. The only good thing is that I know it is strawberries and cream season!

Yellowmellow Fri 02-Jul-21 08:21:08

Bores me to death along with Cricket

GrammarGrandma Fri 02-Jul-21 07:41:53

Men's grand slam tennis is the only sport I like. Can't stand football, rugby, cricket, golf, Formula One, people on bicycles etc.

Yorki Fri 02-Jul-21 01:24:13

GillT57... I hate tennis, cricket and golf with a passion, never watch it, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes. So your not the only one. Totally pointless and boring, is my opinion.

nanna8 Fri 02-Jul-21 00:28:59

Why do you have to pay a licence for free to air? Why don’t you all refuse to pay ? I don’t really watch much sport but my husband does. I like the Tour de France for the scenery and there’s always Netflix if not.

Saetana Fri 02-Jul-21 00:22:38

I look forward to watching Wimbledon every year on TV. For those of you who are not interested - there are PLENTY of programmes on other free channels to watch, even more if you pay for streaming. I detest reality shows, cooking shows, quiz shows and a lot of other stuff - I don't go whining to everyone else about what I dislike. Its Summer - prime sports weather - either switch the channel or STFU, we get this whining every single year facepalm!

I find most of the ‘popular’ sports boring, but I absolutely love the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Vuelta de España, etc. You feel as though you’re actually there with the riders, having a tour of the country, seeing the little villages and ancient buildings. There’s something spectacular about the sight of the peloton winding its way through the countryside. Congratulations to Brit Mark Cavendish on winning his 31st stage of the Tour de France!
Can’t wait for the stages in the Alps - spectacular! (Especially following the riders as they descend round the hairpin bends!)
P.S. If you want to watch it you need to go to ITV4…

dolphindaisy Thu 01-Jul-21 20:03:41

I can understand people who don't like tennis being annoyed at all the BBC coverage. Personally I'm quite shallow, I just like watching Nadal, Federer and Murray and occasionally Djokovic and Serena Williams, once they have all retired I don't think I'll watch it as much. DH is a great fan of Speedway and always complains it's never shown on the main channels even if it is one of the country's much popular spectator sports (I expect a lot of people are pleased it's not shown).

knspol Thu 01-Jul-21 19:55:31

Prefer tennis to football and cricket but that's the best I can say!
Used to love it but don't recognise many players nowadays and hate the grunting and histrionics.

maryrose54 Thu 01-Jul-21 18:38:54

I love a good mixed doubles tennis match. Give me that any day over the dreadful hype and noise that goes with football, especially international matches involving England!!

trisher Thu 01-Jul-21 18:10:17

Hate sport and don't watch Wimbledon. It was sometimes disadvantage when I was working when the whole staff room seemed to have watched and spent every playtime discussing each move.
I do like dance (Ballet, modern) and there isn't enough on TV.
