Does anyone have a favourite piece of music that just gives them goosebumps when they hear it? Mine is. Toccata no5. By Vidor. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I hear this fantastic organ being played. !!

Just remembered another one
Fast love written by George Michael . Whilst I love George Michael this was one song I never liked. Adele covered this at his tribute concert and she slowed the tempo down so you could hear the words that were somehow lost on the upbeat track. (Very clever of George really)

Glad to see "Song to the Moon" (Rusalka) has got a mention. It is wonderful.

'Tara's Theme' from Gone with the wind played by Andre Rieu

Also the John Dunbar theme from Dances with Wolves another which gives me goosebumps.

Another is Beyond the Pale by a group called Slammer. Both my DH and i loved this track and he wanted it to be played at his funeral. The words are so apt if you listen carefully.

Marmight I was recently introduced to the piano version of Widerstehe Doch der Sunde played by Vikingur Olaffson - it is sublime. I had only ever heard it as a choral piece.

The slow movement from Mozart's piano concerto no 22.
The Andante Cantabile from Tchaikovsky's String Quartet no 1.

Hundreds! All the Tchaikovsky ballets, especially Sleeping Beauty, almost all of Bach, Chopin piano pieces……

Top of all for me, though, is Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings.

timetogo2016 Fri 09-Jul-21 16:03:58

Gustav Holst, The planets, Jupitor.

Marmight Fri 09-Jul-21 15:53:51

It has to be 3!
Bach’s Cantata Widerstehe Doch der Sunde performed by the Netherlands Bach Society
O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen
Gabriel’s Oboe by Ennio Morricone. (My late DH walked DD3 down the aisle to this)
All reduce me to a quivering goose- bumped wreck

I must add the Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar and Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith.

I love the Elizabethan Serenade by Ronald Binge and of course many of those already shared.

I must confess to also being rather fond of Ian Drury singing Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick ?

Nice one. He's sadly missed.

There are too many to mention, but for its sheer exhuberance, Bach’s “Prelude in E major” for piano. It’s only three and a half minutes long but it gives me a tremendous lift.
Parry’s “I Was Glad”;
Like Dinahmo Ravel’s G major. The second movement brings me to tears.
“Norfolk Rhapsody” No 1 by Vaughan Williams;
“Coronation Scot” by Vivian Ellis. Wonderfully evocative.
“Wouldn’t it be Nice” because I love The Beach Boys.
“Songbird” sung by Eva Cassidy.

Song to the Moon from the opera Rusalka. I absolutely adore it. I have a CD of Lesley Garrett singing it.

Oh, yes!

Humbertbear Fri 09-Jul-21 08:27:34

Bach Double Violin does it for me every time. The best piece of music ever written, I have to stop whatever I am doing and listen,

Fennel, the Borodin is just meltingly lovely - excellent choice.
