I started having BP after briefly going on the pill but had to stop taking it in my twenties. I had all sorts of tests was told at the time I am just prone to it. I had my first child at 31 and spent the whole pregnancy in hospital because of BP and other problems.

I have never been over weight don’t over indulge in anything cook all my food from scratch apart from an evening or lunch out. I do like wine now although when I was young and child bearing age I did not drink at all. I am on two different tabs a day and my BP is ok I also have a BP monitor to keep check it now and again.

NHS have a site for healthy eating drinking etc do everything in moderation. If you smoke give it up get exercise just walking is good don’t worry about being on meds. I am 65 nearly So I have been on meds quite a long time.

I agree with PinkCakes. I don't use salt but use plenty of onions and garlic for flavour.
I have a bp machine at home and take my own regularly, add them up and average it out. I do take one pill in the morning.
Any stress can put it up.
For instance, I had to go to the hospital for important test results. When I got there I was unexpectedly shot off for an xray then to see the nurse to get weighed and have my bp taken. I was anxious about the test results and guess what, my bp was up!

Not sure why this is under the heading of £Tv, radio, films and arts" but anyway:

Cut out salt - no salt on your meals, cut out bacon, processed food. Look at the labels on foods, as there's salt in most things (Digestive biscuits have a fair amount of salt, for example)
Stop smoking, lose weight, if those apply.

I'm in the same position, my BP averaged out at 143/79 over a week.

I have just learned that my blood pressure is high, and been given a date to recheck it, with the threat/ suggestion of medication .
Does anyone have any advice about how to tackle this without drugs, and/ or can offer reassurance about life with medication?
