Gripe alert - can someone tell me why all other regular programmes are moved to different slots or taken off altogether to make way for sporting events. That is of course except for the awful Bargain Hunt which is on seven days a week.
I know there is an off button but my husband watches the programme. It's the cause of some disputes in our house. smile

Personally I prefer Bargain Hunt or at least I did until I read that it’s all fixed long before the cameras and contestants turn up.
Cant you or your DH use a computer or an IPad to watch your favourite shows whilst the other one uses the TV?

Sorry forgot to add, record Bargain Hunt and watch it a bit later in the day.
Let’s face it Bargain Hunt will still be on in 2090, mostly repeats so he won’t miss it for long as they will keep popping up when you least expect them.

I turned over thinking the news would be on BBC2 only to find Bargain Hunt.

I don't understand why the BBC doesn't have a dedicated sports channel - they could have used BBC3!

JaneJudge Mon 26-Jul-21 15:21:04

I don't understand it, they don't really hunt any bargains or make any money

Nonogran Mon 26-Jul-21 15:26:35

I too can’t understand why the sports cannot be on a dedicated channel for the duration. I loath the way the viewing schedules cannot be maintained. Drives me nuts.

sodapop Mon 26-Jul-21 15:28:47

Exactly JaneJudge and the presenters are really irritating.

MoorlandMooner Mon 26-Jul-21 16:25:11

I don't know if it's because it's one of the few shows I watch, but Gardeners World always seems to be the first port of call for dropping if there is sport on.

Rosycheeks Mon 26-Jul-21 16:28:31

I dont like Bargin Hunt. Whats with the kicking of the leg at the end?

lemsip Mon 26-Jul-21 16:47:01

well, it takes many hours to film bargain hunt then it has to be edited down into a 1 hour slot we only see a very small piece of what is filmed.....same with escape to the country of course...........I don't mind these 'shows if nothing else on though.......I love watching judge judy if stuck for what to watch.

sodapop Mon 26-Jul-21 21:32:06

My husband loves Judge Judy as well lemsip our TV preferences are really not compatible.

I do wish BBC had a dedicated sports channel. However, I do tend to find my favourite programmes on different channels and at different time slots. It's simply a matter of checking each day on my iPad and getting lucky accordingly. I don't always though.

BigBertha1 Mon 26-Jul-21 22:21:17

We enjoy a daily Bargained n Hunt with lots much but the editing and continuity mistakes are easy to spot. That's half the fun.

Cabbie21 Mon 26-Jul-21 22:25:41

It is not just the ordinary programmes that get displaced for sport, sport takes over the news as well, including the local news.
I reckon most people do not want all this coverage, but when do we licence payers ever get the chance to give our opinions?

BigBertha1 Tue 27-Jul-21 06:06:50

That was meant to be with lunch.

I agree. I’m sure many people are as bored by sport
as I am. The Olympics are no more interesting than any other sport and surely not worthy of this constant coverage. It is depressing.

BlueBelle Tue 27-Jul-21 06:17:52

Lemsip I m a judge Judy fan I love her put downs when she’s got some cocky man in front of her
There are many ‘fill in’ programmes that I watch and that come under my title of total crxx and that includes Bargan Hunt so dreadfully predicable you could write the script They literally say the same thing each time the same goes for the antique road trip

Spice101 Tue 27-Jul-21 06:33:39

I actually enjoy BH and here (Australia) is is taken off to allow for sport coverage. The network has 3 channels and all have alteration or cancellation of regular programes to show sport. We don't need Olympics on 3 channels IMO

Calendargirl Tue 27-Jul-21 06:56:47

Don’t watch any day time tv, that includes BH and the Olympics.

Lollin Tue 27-Jul-21 07:48:53

Interesting

25Avalon Tue 27-Jul-21 10:14:43

A dedicated BBC sports channel could be a big mistake. DH’s could watch it 24/7. At the moment we at least get some breaks in between. They seem to use BBC2 for a lot of sport when there are special events on like darts (yawn!)

I don’t mind Bargain Hunt even if it is a bit inane. How do they fix it Oopsadaisy? Can’t all be fake surely?

timetogo2016 Tue 27-Jul-21 10:25:17

My thoughts exactly Rosycheeks.
A daft programme imo.

Granmarderby10 Tue 27-Jul-21 10:41:05

I think with events like the Olympics and World Cup it’s a case of if you can’t beat ‘ em join ‘em. Imo daytime TV on the main channels is so feeble that I welcome the break from magazine programmes, politics, crime/fraud/medical emergency etc. In winter I do like a bit of Homes Under The Hammer though …and maybe Pointless while the dinners on?‍?
