Paul Anka is 80 today !

A very talented man. I think he was only 16 when he wrote Diana and had a big hit with it, it was certainly one of my favourite records when it came out. One of the best albums we ever bought is his ‘Rock Swings’ - he takes several rock songs and gives them a swing treatment, very clever. Examples are: ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Eye Of The Tiger’, It was only by listening to his version of Smells Like Teen Spirit that I realised how clever the lyrics are.

He wrote several massive hits - the words to My Way, I Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore for Buddy Holly, She's a Lady (Tom Jones) and Diana, which sold nearly 10m

When I shared a bedroom with my older (by 8 years) sister I had to put up with a Paul Anka poster on the wall. I was so happy when she got married and I could replace him!

Wow. We watched a documentary this week about Buddy Holly. Paul Anka featured in it.

I always thought he was much older than me but it seems not.

He's a very talented man and unlike some artists who seem to carry on regardless, his voice is still as good as it ever was. We saw him in Las Vegas a few years ago and he was very entertaining telling little anecdotes between the songs.
