I'm so glad you liked it BigBertha1

I agree wholeheartedly with you about the cast, not a weak portrayal in the film.
Yes BC was fantastic, but I was impressed with Merab Ninidze playing Oleg Penkovsky, and of course the lovely Anton Lesser.

I'd love to see a film made about Noor Inayat Khan's life.

I've read and watched TV programs about her. But I think her family is fascinating, and many would like to hear about them.

Perhaps we should write to Hollywood and give them some ideas for future projects!

Just come back from the cinema...there were 8 of us in a huge space. Really good film.BC us a terrific actor but also a very strong cast. Very enjoyable and wonderful to get back in the cinema and have supper and a drink after.

M0nica I'm much the same at home.
But I find if I choose the right film for me, I can become quite engrossed.

Namsnanny, It is not that I do not like cinemas themselves, it is just I am not a viewer. TV or cinema.I am too restless to sit down for very long, unless I am doing something else at the same time; reading, sewing, knitting etc and it is difficult to read in the cinema.

Namsnanny Sun 15-Aug-21 21:05:57

Read my post to BlueBelle Luckylegs.

It has nothing to do with being discourteous.

If anything, apart from my above explanation, I was also afraid of the wrath of GNetters who hate bad spelling, and embarrassingly I wasn't sure, in that moment how to spell
Benedict Cumberbatch

I do wish people would have a little patience and stop this recurring moan about how we communicate.

I'm sorry this has caused some of you to feel the need to complain.

M0nica In my view (limited I know) It is far better than Bridge of Spies.
I do hope you go.
I've found the cinema spacious, with air conditioning, and no one overcrowding each other.
I'm enjoying the experience. With the exception of the nearly 20 minutes of adverts!

You sound rude and jaded BlueBelle. smile

It isnt code. Or laziness.

I was typing on my phone and found it a bit awkward as I was in the car (not driving before you jump to that conclusion!)

I normally take ages to type a post, and others say the same thing quicker.
So I look as if I haven't bothered to read the other replies.

I was conscious of being quick as I might hit a bump in the road and ruin it!

Frankly I dont owe you this lengthy explanation, as I can post what I like how I like.

But I thought out of respect for you I would take the time to explain.

Luckylegs Sun 15-Aug-21 20:42:36

I’m glad for a little explanation because I’ve never heard of this ?film or had a clue who BC is. Please can people post clearly and with courtesy for those of us who are not on such wavelengths?

M0nica Sun 15-Aug-21 20:39:39

It has been compared with Bridge of Spies and sounds very similar, I am not a film goer, but this one is definitely on my list. I remember the Greville Wynne case from when it happened.

Thank you Lucca

BlueBelle Sun 15-Aug-21 18:55:29

Thanks Notspahetti that was my question why do people love writing in code are we so lazy ?

Lucca Sun 15-Aug-21 18:33:43

He’s an exceptional actor

Lucca Sun 15-Aug-21 18:33:10

Benedict cumberbatch.
I like him

BBbevan Sun 15-Aug-21 18:27:37

BC?

NotSpaghetti Sun 15-Aug-21 13:15:50

Who is BC?
I've seen nothing about this film!

Namsnanny Sun 15-Aug-21 12:13:09

Did you read the controversy about whether Oleg Penovsky was a dupe or double agent spottybook?
Most people thought not, but one insider was convinced he was.
They killed him none the less so he paid a high price if he was!

Namsnanny Sun 15-Aug-21 12:09:45

I hope I havent bigged it up too much, and you do actually like it as much as I did BigBertha1.smile

BigBertha1 Sun 15-Aug-21 11:42:19

Looking forward to this enormously glad you enjoyed it.

spottybook Sun 15-Aug-21 11:07:48

Saw it yesterday and would thoroughly recommend it. I’m not a huge fan of BC but his acting was superb and the fact he lost weight for the realistic gulag scenes shows his dedication. He has gone up a notch or two in my esteem. I too read up on the true story when I got home.

Namsnanny Sun 15-Aug-21 10:21:41

I enjoyed it immensely.
No real 'action' as such. Mostly shot in semi darkness. Which isnt always easy to cope with (husband always falls asleep in the cinema, but not this time!)
Which gave it atmosphere.
I've read about the story since the film was advertised, but knew nothing before.
As I watched the audience leave stretching their limbs and collecting their belongings. I wondered if they felt the debt of gratitude that I felt towards these men and women who work in the shadows?
BC became grossly underweight for the gulag scenes, which gave it authenticity.
I would watch it again.
