Very sad to hear this today. Always been a stones fan . Hard for them to manage as a group now apart from I imagine, them all being devastated.

Lovely clip Silverbridge, thank you.
Wonderful music.

The quiet man in nature, the passion in his music, thank you Charlie RIP.

I always maintained that you could be anywhere in the world and if you walked into a venue and heard a drum intro, you would know if it was Charlie Watts ... and you would know that was the Stones.

A beacon in an uncertain world ... thank you Charlie.
Step gently over the rainbow bridge.

A great guy and musician. ?

I always enjoyed watching Charlie, just getting on with the job, as much as Jagger's performances.
smile
Ta for the music, Charlie.

Rest in peace Charlie, without doubt a fine man.
I hope that this now marks the end of Jagger’s egotistical greed.
Yes, they made some excellent music, but I find the way that the Stones carried on for decades, making piles and piles of cash very strange. I hope that Watts had chance to enjoy it.
Remembering L’wren Scott too. flowers

What a cool guy, will be sadly missed.

An unassuming rock legend.

Deedaa Tue 24-Aug-21 19:55:07

I always thought Charlie gave the impression that he would rather have been playing jazz - and why not?

Kalu Tue 24-Aug-21 19:46:00

Thank you Silverbridege. Closed my eyes and enjoyed every second of this soothing rendition of Night Train.

Visgir1 Tue 24-Aug-21 19:29:38

So sad.. We saw the Stones about 3 years ago on last UK tour.
Charlie looked so cool it was almost like he was drumming with his slippers on in a big arm chair , he was so chilled out and relaxed.
Man was a total Legend. RIP

Very sad. Radio 6 Music just played ‘Satisfaction ‘, which first came out when I was at Primary school. I always preferred the Stones and didn’t enjoy anything by the Beatles until ‘While my Guitar Gently Weeps’.

BlueBelle Tue 24-Aug-21 19:11:04

He hadn’t looked very well lately had he ?

tanith Tue 24-Aug-21 18:50:51

Oh dear that’s very ?

JaneJudge Tue 24-Aug-21 18:38:28

How on earth has the normal one died first! Poor Charlie, you were a good man!

Silverbridge Tue 24-Aug-21 18:38:18

Yes Kalu, Charlie Watts was a fine jazz drummer. Here he is in the 2019 Jazz 625 For One Night Only special with Scott Hamilton, John Pearce, and Dave Green playing ^Night Train^:

Keep watching after the music ends.

As Maybee wrote Was it Marianne Faithfull that said it was only when she got older that she realised Charlie was the good looking one
I’d never taken much notice of him but looking at photos of him on the news today, he certainly was good looking.

Kalu Tue 24-Aug-21 18:28:40

Very sad news. He was such a quiet man, never seeking the limelight and enjoyed returning to his preferred music genre of jazz.
End of yet another era. ?

Kate1949 Tue 24-Aug-21 18:27:04

I was always team Beatles but I went with a friend to see the Stones in the 60s. It was amusing to see Charlie drumming away taking no notice of the antics of the others, especially Brian Jones.

Elusivebutterfly Tue 24-Aug-21 18:21:54

Since Brian Jones died, I imagine the rest of the Stones would go on forever! It is very sad. Luckily, I saw them in concert only a few years ago.

A great drummer and an amazing man who stayed married for 57 years. His wife must be devastated. RIP Charlie.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 24-Aug-21 18:20:14

So sad

As we grow older so do our idols

MayBee70 Tue 24-Aug-21 18:14:41

Having watched lots of documentaries about groups it’s always surprised me how important the drummer is to the chemistry of the band. Many bands have had many drummers until they found the right one. Was it Marianne Faithfull that said it was only when she got older that she realised Charlie was the good looking one. Which he was. Lovely inside and out RIP

Fennel Tue 24-Aug-21 18:05:34

I've been following news of Charlie lately. He's been on demand as a rock drummer by many other groups. Surprising as he was looking so frail.
RIP Charlie.
