Spoiler alert!

I finished watching this last night. I thought it was a good interpretation of the book. Drax was so utterly evil and I must admit, I enjoyed Tom Courtney’s Baxter getting his comeuppance!

I’m going to rewatch episode one just to piece together all the people. I know I’m biased but I hope Jack finally gets the recognition he deserves. I may rewatch it just for the scenery alone.

I like it. I think it's a briliant portrayal of the time and whale hunting. It was a violent and bloodthirsty way of earning a living. Stephen Graham is great.

Stephen Graham must be the busiest, most successful actor ever. He never stops. He’s amazing.

I gave up. Just too grim for me.

I think it’s really well done, well acted and a good representation of the book.Grim watching at times of course.

I read that no one one had filmed a drama so far north before although I assume that must be British made productions? Surely Scandinavian countries have filmed in that area? The actors had no contact with their families and friends during filming.

Am persevering, but it seems plagued by the dim lighting and mumbling that spoil some dramas. Watched Stephen Graham in ‘ Help ‘ this week, an amazing performance

I watched it because of Stephan Graham such a resilient actor no matter what character he plays. It is hard hitting and grim I look away from the screen from the violent scenes.

I was wondering if it was a good adaptation. It reminds me a lot of The Revenant, although that’s a film that I can happily rewatch and I don’t think I’ll be rewatching this.

I’ve only watched episode one so far but I read the book last year. It’s pretty horrific.

One more episode to go. It doesn’t get any more cheerful unfortunately. Very good acting, though.

I’m enjoying it but fast forward when the animals are slaughtered.

I’m just about to watch the last two episodes….

Humbertbear Sat 18-Sept-21 18:26:46

I was looking forward to it but watched the first five minutes and gave up.

It’s not in the same league as The Terror which I was obsessed with! Having watched the first two episodes I did read up on episode 3 to see if it was worth persevering with and I was so shocked to find I’d been watching Colin Farrell that I resolved to watch it just to marvel at his transformation! There is a whaling scene in episode two that really upset me though, even though I knew it wasn’t really happening.

I have made a note to watch this, I love Colin Farrell. I did like The Terror and it would be hard to match this for me.

Anyone watching it? I thought I’d stick with it because I love Jack O’Connell but must admit that, thus far, I’ve been finding it a bit slow and depressing. However I’ve just read that it was largely filmed north of Svalbard and that the actor playing Drax the whaler is actually Colin Farrell. I might actually binge watch the last three episodes. It hasn’t gripped me in the way The Terror did, though.
