Does anyone else find the new theme tune on Endeavour irritating It drown out the beginning and I find it totally wrong for the series. Don’t know whether I will watch it again but if I do it will be on silent for the first few minutes.

As a Oxford girl living away from home I was so disappointed in last night episode.
It was like a weak pantomime who done it all contained inside a gloomy dark house.
Missed the delights of the scenery of Oxfordshire and cars ect

It was filmed during lockdown, so there were restrictions on locations.

Thank you growstuff I'm of the belief if you can't do the episode justice by no outdoor location ect then pointless filming and to ruin a good series with inside drivel

I'm fairly sure the earlier series had much more realistic and believable plots. I think it is a terrible shame that each episode now seems to have an Agatha Christie type convoluted plot that bears no resemblance to real life. I like Agatha Christie by the way but don't think that style is appropriate for something like Endeavour.

There are some great actors in Endeavour and I wonder if they feel satisfied with the way this is going.

growstuff that makes much more sense now.

I must have been having a dull brain moment, because although I heard Endeavour say that about the thaw, I didn't get it. Thanks for pointing it out Treebee

Well I enjoyed last night’s episode. It was gripping and atmospheric and it took my mind off a couple of worries.
I also appreciated Morse’s comment at the end about a Thaw coming.
Haven’t noticed the change in theme tune. Was that really the last episode in this series? Disappointed if so.

I haven't watched the last one yet but feel that so far it has been disappointing.

I've been an Endeavour fan for ages but I was very disappointed with last nights episode. The back stories on characters did make it a bit interesting i.e. Thursday's soldier son being AWOL and Endeavour having a drink problem but the rest was just a load of tosh.

Yes I agree with all the Agatha Christie comments. I didnt realise this was the last episode.

I would like it to come back again, but with writers who are interested in the decade and the characters.

I will definitely miss Roger Allum.

Watched the first one last night. Didn’t notice any music, but we do fast forward past all the adverts and build up. Maybe that’s why. I’ll look out for it next time.

I thought last night's episode should have been the Christmas special, but as for the plot. Agatha Christie did it so much better.
The house had been untouched for eight years (?), the roads were impassible yet everyone else seemed to have no trouble in driving, Thursday was able to have an interview with a dangerous prison inmate overnight (?), his wife is getting increasingly nasty, and I found the plot incomprehensible.
Oh, and is it the same Strange or another actor?

It’s the same Strange, minus about 3 or 4 stone.

Yes re the difficult driving. No one could go anywhere, but Fred obviously forged his way to the hospital, then the entire force was able to rock up to the abandoned hotel for the last ten minutes.

That girl must have been frozen in her mini PVC Mac, and her white go-go boots would have been useless at keeping her feet dry.

After eight years of being abandoned, the chimney didn’t require sweeping as a roaring fire was soon blazing in the hotel lounge.

Storyline just plain daft. Think all the regulars must have been embarrassed to be taking part.

Didn’t enjoy at all last night’s episode, completely agree with easybee’s comments.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 27-Sept-21 11:07:35

Last nights episode was like an extremely poor imitation/execution of an Agatha Christie dramatisation.

Rosina Mon 27-Sept-21 10:56:42

I could not have been more disappointed with last night's final episode. This Morse prequel has been so enjoyablel, and the casting outstanding, but I watched the final ten minutes with growing disbelief as characters offered increasingly ridiculous and convoluted explanations. I can only think that the fine actors playing the leads roles must have felt almost embarassed.

Charleygirl5 Mon 27-Sept-21 10:56:05

I neither enjoyed nor understood last night's episode and I hope it does not return any time soon. Too much was filmed in the dark and as I have sight problems much of it was lost to me.

ninathenana, I said exactly that to my husband. I haven't been impressed with the writing of this series, but I've stuck with it.

ninathenana Mon 27-Sept-21 10:34:22

Greyduster we too got bored with last nights episode and never did quiet work out who was who regarding the suspects.
It reminded me of an Agatha Christie plot.

Greyduster Mon 27-Sept-21 10:17:15

I thought that the plot line in last night’s episode was tedious and rather far fetched. I hope if there’s another series they’ll get back to some semblance of the original storylines. Romantic interest for Joan and Strange do you think? As for Strange shedding weight, he’d obviously put it all back on and then some by the time he became Chief Super in the Morse series!

Boz Mon 27-Sept-21 10:11:30

I think prequels are difficult as we know Morse never marries and never gets killed on duty. I don't like the gloomy atmosphere of the programme and have difficulty in believing Shaun Evans is the younger Morse.

Forsythia Mon 27-Sept-21 10:04:39

I think this series has been disappointing compared to what has gone before. Last nights episode could have been so much better. I found it hard to hear some of what was being said and I’m still not entirely sure why people were being bumped off. I hope if there is another series it gets back to the good simple plot lines of old. The actors all deserve better as they are all so good in their roles.

Calendargirl Mon 27-Sept-21 09:32:03

Not been the best series,

Didn’t enjoy seeing Endeavour’s battle with his drink demons. Also didn’t like his hair, or Bright’s. (Has the latter grown it for another role maybe?)
And the slimline Strange just looked ‘strange’ although probably dieted for his health.

This last episode was just rather silly.

MiniMoon Tue 21-Sept-21 10:30:54

I really rather like the theme tune. I enjoyed the second episode better than the first and I'm hoping that it keeps improving. I quite agree about Bright's hair.

The second episode was on last Friday evening here (Nederlands TV) and I finally watched both of the episodes last night.
I honestly did not notice the music, but I do agree with the lack of empathy between the main characters, it just seemed a bit bland.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 21-Sept-21 09:19:22

Episode 2 had a better plot but still the awful opening music. I noticed Barrington Pheloung on the credits so presumably he composed it. None of the snippets of opera which I used to enjoy. I want to know how Strange has lost so much weight!
