it is indeed a classic.

I've just popped in to say 'Bicycles' is also one I want to watch.

I love this film. The real affection between the old man and the small boy. The music is sublime too.

Was it Zefferelli?

I think the beautiful Italian atmosphere and soaring music score play a big part. Have you watched the longer version (director's cut) which expands into teenage years? Much prefer the short version which captures the love between Alfredo and the budding film director of future fame.

We saw this in the late 1980s or very early 90s in our local art cinema How lovely. I had forgotten about it.

Also loved Vacas and Like Water for Chocolate of roughly the same period - maybe a couple of years after?
Recently watched "The Mafia Only Kills in Summer" which is a TV series and that was good but films are crafted as one so have the opportunity to be something special.

What else can Paradiso fans suggest?

Would that be the surreptitious sex in the cinema!

I'm sending the DVD to my daughter and aunt tomorrow, and have given my friend across the road a copy. Just the one scene I found upsetting, why on earth put something like that in it!

I love Cinema Paradiso. I first saw it on video and luckily our local independent cinema gave a screening. A poignant and touching film.

Cinema Paradiso is a wonderful film. One of my all-time favourites. Fantastic music score (Morricone?).
