Just started on BBC 2. We never get tired of listening to the album Bridge Over Troubled Water and we always remember our little boys dancing to some of the tracks such as Baby Driver and Cecilia; are in their mid fifties now.

It's very different from the original, I know.
I love that means voice; it gives me the shivers.

Thank you Jane43
We watched documentary and central park.
Made a very enjoyable evening.

MissAdventure Thank you for the link.
I still prefer the original version, but was definitely worth a listen and the video was quite good.

In case anyone is interested Central Park concert is on Sky Arts right now.

Loved the programme. BOTW brought me to tears (so many memories).

I hadn't heard of The Disturbed version so clicked on MissA's link above, but I don't like it. I prefer the raw sound of the original which has always blown me away.

The Disturbed version.

I remember years ago having a day to visit mum, while OH looked after the children. Travelled an hour to mums, she wasn't in. Discovered someone had just bought videotape of Central Park. Sat and watched it all alone. Then went home. Bliss.

Am watching the concert in Central Park now. It is just fabulous, 2 amazingly talented singer songwriters. They can put a new spin on a song each time they sing it and never fail to impress.
I’ve loved them since the beginning both as a duo and as solo artists. I saw Paul Simon a few years ago in Glasgow. What memories. Was equally happy to see a tribute act to Art Garfunkel. The guy was his double and what a voice.
I often play their music in my workroom, bliss.

I was telling DS about the programme and he played me the Disturbed version.

henetha Sun 10-Oct-21 11:20:33

I watched that documentary last night. I've always been a fan and now love them more than ever. I've played my Bridge Over Troubled Water album this morning.

Thanks Jane - I missed it last night but have bookmarked it now.
I love their music especially BOTW.

Sorry I missed MissAdventure on the post above, how I wish there was an edit function.

Jane43 Sun 10-Oct-21 10:11:19

Blondiescot. We love Disturbed’s version too and Paul Simon gave it the thumbs up, I get the impression he is hard to please.

Bridge over Troubled Water is my all time favourite album.
My family have been informed the song is to be played at my funeral .

Missed the programme Jane
but not too upset as DH and I are just back from a lovely evening at the theatre.

The Simon and Garfunkel story!

Cherrytree59 you must watch it on the iPlayer, it was very interesting to learn about how the album came together. Was the theatre performance good? Sometimes these shows are disappointing, especially if they are just a glorified tribute act but your reaction sounds positive.

I said to DH recently that Paul Simon’s lyrics are a work of art, on a par with Bob Dylan and Lennon and McCartney.

Found by accident last night after SCD, what a wonderful surprise. Loved them.!
Took me back to Sunday Lunches with mum and dad.
We always played records, Dad would say... Put The Bridge on the River Kwai on.... We would all sing together, while helping out setting the table with Dad making his famous gravy, happy days. So many songs being back memories.
This is a special LP to me and still one of the best LP 's ever made.

I didn't manage to see it all but it was very enjoyable. I love 'The Boxer' too. It brought back memories of happier, simpler times. Their Greatest Hits was the first album I ever bought and I still have it.

MissAdventure

Have you heard the version by 'Disturbed', muse?

I absolutely adore the Disturbed version of Sound of Silence. It's one of the few cover songs which I think is actually so much better than the original. David Draiman's voice just takes it into a whole new level.

I remember when it came out and liked it but to remind myself I watched the music video last night. The version is brilliant. Not too much but it’s the power of his voice suits the lyrics. Art’s voice still sends shivers up my back when he sings it though.

I recorded it last night when DGS was here, after Church today when he is returned to his parents(annoy Grandma on a Sunday afternoon and action will be taken) I plan to watch it with a nice cup of tea.

It was sublime.
All gone now though.
The memories last, though. smile

Don't they just!

Also, forgot to mention seeing The Faces in Manchester Free Trade Hall (now a hotel) when I was 16, I was so excited, my older sister took me (she also took me to see The Small Faces when I was 10, felt so grown up!).

Curlywhirly Sun 10-Oct-21 01:02:36

Sounds amazing MissAdventure.

MissAdventure Sun 10-Oct-21 00:50:50

Probably the Stone Rose's at Finsbury Park.
Dusk fell, and they did a 12 minute guitar solo, with mesmerising kaleidoscopic lights on huge screens.
The atmosphere was out of this world (but I appreciate it's not everyone's taste!)

Curlywhirly Sun 10-Oct-21 00:41:38

Oh well now, I think it's a draw between Billy Joel and Michael McDonald, but then again it could be James Taylor (all seen in concerts in Manchester). So hard to choose my favourite. What's yours MissAdventure?
