It is a very good film, but extremely challenging, not afternoon viewing. I thought Anne Reid was very brave to do it, especially the sex scenes. I can’t watch Peter Vaughan without seeing Grouty in Porridge..
I remember this from the first time around. I love Anne Reid, and I though she was very brave to play this part. Nowadays I cant think of any actress who would consider looking her age to perform well in a part like this. They put on fat suits and don grey wigs but it isnt the same.
I shan't be watching it I dont think. I tend to want to watch up lifting or engaging (in a different way) stories nowadays. Not reflections of real life.
We both enjoyed this film, definitely not a feel-good story but at the end I felt that the mother was finally free and able to take herself off on holiday, as she had a suitcase and passport. No-one was likeable, though.
I just came across this film, made in 2003 with Anne Reid and Daniel Craig. They were both excellent in it, I'd never really seen Daniel Craig in much apart from James Bond.
Wow very different, it certainly was not a feel good movie. It was uncomfortable/quite shocking viewing at times.
