When Andrew Marr left and Sophie Rayworth took over I was pleased. Watching her argumentative way of interviewing I think I would prefer to hang out the washing.

Why do BBC interviewers have to repeat their questions so nastily?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 20-Mar-22 10:26:02

It’s not just BBC interviewers. Kay Burley on Sky constantly interrupts and keeps repeating the question. I think they all want to be Paxman. I find it sometimes gets so unpleasant and stressful that I just switch it off. A polite interviewer such as Clive Myrie achieves so much more.

Andrew Marr is a successful writer and broadcaster with a wry look at politics.
Sophie Raworth is ok; but just that. Not really good enough to host a special Sunday morning political programme.

I think Sophie is ok. Doing her best I think. But I would like to see a new face on this Sunday morning slot. My vote is for Ros Atkins.

I do have some sympathy with interviewers - politicians are adept at ducking questions they do not want to answer and they are being asked these questions on our behalf. It is deeply irritating that they do not answer the questions, and I think it is right to try and tease this out of them. We have a right to know what they are thinking and for them to be challenged to be answerable for their policies.

Having said that, it is usually very unpleasant to watch, so mostly I don't. Some interviewers are better at it than others.

Holding politicians to account is part of our democracy.

Would agree with you Luckygirl, politicians rarely answer the question asked and always veer off to something else altogether, so the interviewer should interrupt if necessary as otherwise it ends up as a party political. It does infuriate me.

Well Andrew Neil (following a heart scare & procedure) will be hosting a Sunday political programme in an evening, starting in May. More my type of interviewer. He listens well to the questions he asks and doesn’t interrupt.

Thanks Urmstongran. I'll watch that.

Oh yes, I really like Ros Atkins’ reports and would like to see more of him. I will be watching Andrew Neil’s programme, his knowledge of the subject matter is always very impressive.

Yes, I too have an admiration for AN. He certainly seems to have an all encompassing knowledge of the political scene and his off the cuff memory always impressed\astonished me. Sometimes a little abrasive but that seems to go with the territory unfortunately. Thanks for info, Urm. Will certainly give that a look in.

Same on Radio, I very often don’t listen when they constantly interrupt. I would refuse to be interviewed by them. Years ago I remember someone walking of a chat show because of it, priceless. I like Ann Nightingale, she listens to the answers and carefully phrases her question, she appears to know it’s an actual person she is talking to. So many don’t listen to the answers you can see them champing at the bit to be heard, it’s so aggressively rude. It is not pleasant or informative to tge listener.

I agree with Luckygirl3 and silverlining48. I often find myself shouting Just answer the bl**dy question. I like an interviewer who tries to make them do that. If they don't interrupt, the politician rambles on and they run out of time.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 21-Mar-22 16:51:57

I’ve never seen her particularly, but I get really incensed when people ( usually politicians), don’t answer the questions.

I’m always relieved when it just gets repeated until they do.

eazybee Mon 21-Mar-22 16:55:08

She is simply boring; very repetitive.
Better as a newsreader.

No thanks, having seen how he bullied and intimidated Carole Cadwalldr when she revealed the Russian money finding Johnson's government, GB News, Farage etc., I will be steering well clear of that old fraud.

I'd love to see Andrew Neil back. He's ferociously well informed.

dogsmother Mon 21-Mar-22 18:07:42

I would so love to see Sarah Montague on screen, she’s an amazing interviewer.
