The Great Big Tiny Design Challenge

If anyone is ever near Carlisle, there’s a very good garden centre complex quite close by at Houghton Hall. Within it is The World of Minature Museum. I was enthralled, absolutely loved it all. It’s well worth a visit.

Missed it but shall watch tomorrow on demand.

I enjoyed the show but agree the competition element isn't necessary. I would be happier just seeing them create their mini masterpieces. They all seem such gentle, clever people.

I do think it is such a shame that incredible hobbies, which many would love to see, are turned into a sport. It has happened with cooking, sewing and now miniatures.

Why do they need to do something in three hours that normally take them three days of careful and enjoyable work? You would have to edit the three days; they do that in other programmes so it can't be impossible.

It seems the producers of all these programmes have decided that all we want to see is how you can monetise your hobby. That would of course mean turning yourself into a factory instead of enjoying the slow and steady pace of enjoying each step of the process.

I imagine the people on the programme are very talented. However, I doubt we will have the chance to see what they can do. I would have loved to see these things done at hobby speed and to have learned what they use, etc.

I have no desire to make them myself, but I do love miniatures. I had a dolls’ house which I had to get rid of when I moved to this flat, but I kept all the lovely miniature things I had bought for it. You can buy wonderful things now. As well as furniture, I’ve got a basket of apples, a bowl of eggs, and other foods in perfect detail. Also a nice cat and two tiny mice. I really must dig out the box they are in, and renew my acquaintance with them.

I love tiny things. My favourite book is The Borrowers and loved it when they lived in the Model Village. I can imagine Pod, Homily and little Arrietty being happy in one of the dolls houses.

I’m looking forward to it, apparently they are doing a regency room, which should be interesting.
