Ever since he retired, dh has been keen on brushing up his O level French, so is keen on French films. This was recommended by someone at one of his conversation groups.

It’s about a rich Parisian quadriplegic who hires a supposed ne’er-do-well, a ‘person of colour’, as his carer.

I didn’t fancy it a bit - it sounded very depressing, but in fact was anything but - I really enjoyed it.
Apparently a true story.
Highly recommended if you don’t mind subtitles, or if your French is good enough!

I have just started watching Emily in Paris, it’s enjoyable and if course Paris is lovely and I enjoy learning new French words.
Can anyone recommend a good subtitled not too complicated German film/series. Will be watching a fair bit of tv over the next month or two.

Thank you Wizend, I’m looking for recommendations for something different.

Hi, Silverlining, you might like Deutschland 83, 86, 89, three seasons of a German cold war drama.
I think it was on More 4, Walter Presents....

Thanks Grannmarie. Will google.

I remember watching the TV series in the 60's, thought you were going to talk about Elliott Ness and prohibition!

This is a real feel good film. The surprising thing about it was that everyone loved it - in our office from the bolshy young office trainee right across the board up to the older women. I think I've got the DVD somewhere - I might go and have another watch of it!

Oh I'm so glad that someone has seen this film as well!

I did attempt a thread about it a few days ago but it sank like a stone. Maybe because I used the French title, Intouchable and it probably sounded somewhat odd.

Anyway, good job, Witzend Wasn't it just wonderful? One of the best films I've seen for years.

I’m having no luck finding it on Netflix, was The Untouchables recently?

Zoejory Fri 01-Apr-22 20:44:18

Hi Maryan, it's still on Netflix. If you search Intouchables you should be able to find it.

Having lived in Belgium {15 years} and subsequently in France {12 years} we happily viewed this film last night. What a gem! Thoroughly enjoyed the portrayals with super acting. Only small note is that having passed through Dunkirk many times, the film certainly was not shot there!

My favourite film! Everyone I have recommended it to feels the same. There is now a new version, Brian Crampton from Breaking Bad fame plays the quadriplegic, so I imagine it is in English. I am loath to watch it for a while as I don’t want to spoil my thoughts of the original. I particularly love the party scene with the music and dancing.

Found it thanks Zoejory!
