The Prince's Master Crafters on Sky Arts, with Jim Moir

Jay Blades doesn't do any restoration on the repair shop, he is just the presenter and it isn't a real shop by the way as some of my friends seem to think it is He actually used to strip down and rebuild electronics so even I was a bit confused as to why he got an obe (or mbe) for furniture or something but I think he runs a workshop based business in Wolverhampton that 'restores' furniture. I actually like him but I know people who work in skilled restoration get a bit irritated by him too.

I haven't seen the program yet. I am invested in heritage craft and wondered if they would feature any at risk skills, there is a list on the heritage craft association site some of which would blow your mind

Oh I loved Alec Clifton Taylor and his programmes. I remember him standing in front of Willington Power Station when the cooling towers were painted in plaster colours saying how wonderful they were. I think a lot of them can be found on utube.

I’m familiar with pargetting through the late Alec Clifton Taylor’s books and a marvellous TV series he did in the 89s.

When discussing D's wedding cake with a supplier in Essex I suggested it would be good to have a pargetting effect in tbe icing. To her credit, she understood what I had in mind.

I'm not having a go at Fanny but if that's what you think I can't stop you thinking that.

I do get quite touchy about people who think its funny to make comments about a person's appearance or perceived abilities for the job, without knowing anything about them. I don't know if Blades is any good on Repair Shop or not, because I only watch it occasionally. But I'm going to point out when people are subject to unfair or bullying behaviour, whether they're on TV or not. And I'm sorry, there was bullying behaviour here. Not disagreement with someone's point of view, proper bullying directed at someone who isn't even present. And I will also defend myself to anybody who wants to tell me I'm out of order.

I'm pointing out that completely and immediately diverting a thread to make fun of somebody who has nothing to do with the show that's being recommended, without having any knowledge of that person at all, is rather childish. Criticise people by all means, say you don't like their presenting style, but don't poke fun at them just to join in the mudslinging for a giggle.

I guess I must just be a bit protective of Jay then. You know, the bloke who didn't have anything to do with the OP but who many people were having a go at just for fun? The guy who was one of 26 siblings and was raised by a single mum, who founded a charity to help underprivileged people then became homeless. Who didn't learn to read until he was 51.

Oh I don’t really mind the thread rambling. It’s like having a conversation with friends. Actually, it’s like when I was teaching, the children could get me chatting on different topics sometimes, instead of boring lessons ? I am very easily distracted (and also find the Hughie Green type of faux sincerity a tad annoying).
I hope people enjoy the Crafts programme and I had to look up pargeter as soon as I heard it. Now how to try and drop it into everyday conversation? ?

I’ve been watching a series on Ch5 that Jay Blades made about Hackney where he grew up. If you read about his life on Wikipedia he’s quite an amazing person and has overcome some awful things in his life.

I’m hoping to find how to get it up on my laptop or TV. Apparently freeview Channel 11 has it but my TV is ancient and shows something different for 11. I’ll persevere.

I’ve a passion for crafts and have tried many in my time. My love was fused glass for years and I took up wood turning just before lockdown.

I think Jim Moir should be good. I like his enthusiasm for art. Saw him on Grayson Perry’s Art Club, ch4 talking about his work.
