Has anybody else been watching this? It is ghastly.
Honestly, you could pay me whatever these cost and I’d still refuse to go!

Duh Maw.
I thought you were organising another GN cruise!

Yes watched it here and it certainly puts me of a cruise!

Hi, I thought that from the second they stepped on to the ship, everyone seemed to be trying far too hard to be showing everyone else what a good time they were having. Some of the staff have hardly covered themselves in glory either, I mean what on earth is that entertainment host thinking about when he gets dressed for work each day? As for the family of four, middle aged parents plus 2 daughters in their early twenties - they must all be cringing the whole time. Sums it all up when you see one passenger having to visit the ship Medical facility to get a drip to re hydrate him to sort out the after effects of the last party, and after he is finished he says that's him ready for the next party! Not my idea of a holiday at all. So I'm glad I watched the programme and so know now not to book it.

I watched the first 10 minutes then gave up. It was dreadful , we have had a few cruises and thoroughly enjoyed them but this was enough to put anyone off their first cruise .

Never been on a cruise and if anything that cruise line would definitely put me off even thinking about one. Our friends go on luxury cruises and enjoy them but even they don’t appeal each to their own.

I too thought you were organising another GN cruise Maw!
Saw the title and wondered ...
?

???????

I saw about ten minutes of it and switched off. I thought it was awful. One of the ‘excursions’ was a bar crawl round the ship. We’ve been on several cruises and none of them were remotely like that. Mind you, I think there are different types of cruise ships available to choose from, party cruises, Disney cruises, etc. We’ve always chosen a fairly traditional cruise ship based on it’s route and where it’s visiting.

MawtheMerrier Mon 11-Jul-22 09:44:01

Thank goodness! (For “traditional cruises and cruise ships)
I feared I was just being snobby but honestly could not see the appeal of what the programme seemed to be so impressed by. I also thought the attitude towards seamanship was probably far short of the standard of E.g.the Master of the QE2.
The “entertainment” was cringeworthy, the appearance of the ship’s crew and staff appalling and honestly, as I said, would not take one as a gift- even if you also paid me. ???

Oh, disappointment here too that Maw wasn't organising another cruise. I've got designer shopping withdrawal symptoms. And fine cuisine! ?

We’ve enjoyed cruises to some incredibly interesting destinations and some extremely beautiful places. The cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore, with several visits to Vietnam, and also Cambodia and Thailand was very interesting. Also a cruise which visited several Japanese ports, plus Taiwan and Shanghai was interesting. Alaska was magnificent, as were the Sounds in New Zealand. Norway is incredibly beautiful too. We’ve cruised with Holland America, Cunard, and Celebrity. All traditional cruise lines. Not a bar crawl in sight.

I thought this was about the fly on the wall series with Jane MacDonald that I never watched first time round but am now seriously addicted to now it’s on BBC 4 late at night. It’s so of it’s time. I can virtually smell the cigarette smoke.

J52 Mon 25-Jul-22 09:33:40

This sounds so awful it could be good! Will try to watch a bit, probably not the whole series.
I must admit I’ve never been on a cruise, but each to their own. I might fancy a fully crewed private yacht around the Bahamas, but it’s unlikely to happen.

MayBee70 Mon 25-Jul-22 12:52:15

I’ve just Google’s Jane MacDonald and it said she did a Ch5 series called Cruising with Jane MacDonald which won an award ( the first award that Ch 5 ever won) so they obviously think that cruising is a crowd pleaser for the channel. Looks like I’m going to end up watching all of them.

We have been on several very enjoyable cruises.
None of them has been a bit like the one in this programme.
Like any holiday you need to read the small print and information on what sort of cruise / holiday it is.
Eg. When we went to Puru one of the trips was a climb up to see Machu Pichu. One couple were very surprised that they actually had to walk to see it. It clearly stated in the brochure that it could be strenuous.
