I think what Shandy means is that his mother was probably paid for him. I don’t know of course, but I think that is what she means and it’s most likely is true. The father had died and mother was left with several children to feed. How she chose one to sell I don’t know, it must have been hard for her. But choose she did, and we all know the ending.
I really admire Mo Farrah, always have done. I would like to see his traffickers prosecuted.

He must feel tremendous relief that his story is out in the open now, I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been to keep it secret for so many years, like a shadow hanging over him all the time.

If you watch the programme it seems more likely that if any money changed hands it went to the relative who was looking after him and his twin brother.

The family say his mother sent Mo and his twin brother to live with relatives after their father was killed. They were in poverty. Not unusual in those circumstances for children in a large poverty stricken family to be cared for by relatives.
His brother remembers the morning when Mo had gone. Children in vulnerable circumstances can be used as domestic slaves, as Mo was.
Very moving and there’s clearly more to his back story. What a good man the teacher who helped him is.

The trouble is that the relative (if they even were relatives, somehow I doubt it) used Mo as a slave and wouldn’t even let him go to school at first. These kind of people are beneath contempt. How could anyone use a nine year old child as a slave?

The husband and wife involved are separated. He’s said to live in Manchester, she’s said to be abroad. He is quoted as saying in Somalia there’s no such thing as child trafficking or child abuse.

Child servants are common in some parts of the world. Time that stopped of course but the extent of exploitation of children is huge

The documentary raised more questions than answers, didn't it. I am sorry that nobody is being held to account for what happened to Mo as a child. I was hoping that he wanted to return to his own name now. It's a heartbreaking story really.

I wondered about the birth name and the name with which he was knighted for giving so much to the country that gave him refuge.
