I love this Requiem! Would it be pretentious to have bits played at my funeral? But what about the Faure Requiem? I sang that too. Oh decisions, decisions!

Cabbie21 Fri 15-Jul-22 23:30:49

This was the first work my choir sang once we were out of Covid restrictions. Exhilarating!

The Libera me does it for me.

annodomini Fri 15-Jul-22 21:27:10

The Dies Irae sends shivers down my spine! Verdi was hugely preferable to political debate and/or football.

And I have learned what a cimbasso is!

welbeck Fri 15-Jul-22 21:14:53

ditto.
and serendipitously for me.

merlotgran Fri 15-Jul-22 21:00:46

That was wonderful. What a treat!

welbeck Fri 15-Jul-22 20:22:37

kim and sim seem a good combination too.
as well as the wonderful ladies.

welbeck Fri 15-Jul-22 20:19:44

and so good to hear see the crouch end festival chorus too.

Sorry Grandma70's I must have been formulating my post.

Replacing Freddie di Tommaso, who has Covid.

MiniMoon Fri 15-Jul-22 20:13:41

I love Verdi's Requiem. I was looking forward to hearing g Freddie de Tommaso. His replacement, whose name escapes me is a wonderful singer though.

welbeck Fri 15-Jul-22 20:13:32

thanks.

Grandma70s Fri 15-Jul-22 20:11:27

It’s David Junghoon Kim.

All the details can be found on the website but I believe the tenor has been changed at the last minute due to Covid.

welbeck Fri 15-Jul-22 19:53:53

anyone know who the soloists are.
and the conductor ?
glad i found this by chance.
years ago, i remember feeling vibrations through my sternum during the dies irae.
a strange and somewhat alarming sensation.
the cast iron pillars in the chapel also held a slight tremor.

Grandma70s Fri 15-Jul-22 19:46:53

I don’t envy them. The Albert Hall is the hottest place I have ever sung in - I’ve been in several Proms - and in this weather will be pretty unbearable, for the audience also. It’s spectacular though, great for the offstage brass, and from the stage you can see the whole audience.

Deedaa Fri 15-Jul-22 19:33:21

Watching it now. I love the Requiem.

merlotgran Fri 15-Jul-22 19:28:39

Nice to see Clive Myrie presenting. A bit of a change from war torn Ukraine.

merlotgran Fri 15-Jul-22 10:47:08

Kicks off with Verdi’s Requiem!

Summer just gets better and better!
