"Bodies" medical drama and hospital politics

I dont usually watch medical dramas but I stumbled on this on Netflix by accident. Ive seen some of the threads on MN with NHS staff discussing "hospital politics" and of how consultants imagine themselves to be gods. And I wonder how true to life all this is!

For those of you who have not seen it the consultants are more obsesses with petty rivalties and one upmanship than they are with the care of patience. Needless to say there is an adverserial relationship between management and medical staff with the former obsessed with their bloody statistics. That does not stop the hospital moving heaven and earch to cover up mistakes and blunders from relatives seeking answers.

As for the bitching, back biting and snitching that goes on it reminds me of my last place of work (a university). I used to come in, get on with my work, and get involved as little as possible. One day one of my colleagues said to me "You have no idea what goes on in the office do you Biglouis?" When I told her I despised office politics she gave me a pitying look as though I had missed something important.

Im sure someone people live for it!

I watched this when it originally aired. I loved it, it was quite graphic in parts. But it was gripping drama and how I hated to consultant who bungled everything, leaving it to his minion to sort out and rectify. I would recommend it totally

Brilliant drama......and sadly very accurate.

My friend is a midwife. She was sacked for whistleblowing,

We’re currently on season 2 of this drama. It is quite shocking in places I have to say. Thank god my pregnancy days have passed - think I’d be terrified after watching this!

Have to say that the politics are spot on and whistleblowers are still treated badly. Oh and those ghastly team management days - boy I hated those with a passion, would have preferred to get on with my job.

If you’re in a good team it’s fabulous, but if you’re not and you have a bullying manager then it’s truly awful. Nope I don’t miss it at all ?

If I had not already decided at age 11 I wanted no children watching something like that would put me off entirely.

The episode I enjoyed was where the trendy couple decided on a water birth and the stupid husband stepped in a puddle and got electrocuted while they were resuscitating his wife. Oh joy!
