Life with the Lyons

I remember listening to Life with the Lyons when I was a child, then a few years later they were on TV.

I remember this programme which also included their children Barbara and Richard. They all introduced themselves, and when Bebe said her name she giggled. I think they also had a maid or housekeeper played by the Scots actress Molly Weir.

Yes I remember that programme, also Educating Archie, Take It From Here, Ray’s A Laugh with Ted Ray and Kitty Blewitt and Hancock’s Half Hour. The radio was a huge part of our family life until we had a television when I was about 12. I used to listen to Mrs Dale’s Diary and The Archers with my Mum and Journey Into Space with my Dad. I found a cassette with extracts of some of these programmes years ago and gave it to an aunt in Canada, I wish I had bought one for myself as well.

I remember listening to Life with the Lyons on the radio when I was a child. I thought the Lyons were actually lions.

We didn't listen to Life With The Lyons because my mother couldn't stand Molly Weir. I later read Molly's autobiography and found her fascinating.

Our favourites were Take It From Here and Much Binding In The Marsh.

There was also meet the Huggetts and whenever someone came to the door they said "Lovely wallpaper".

Ooh yes, I remember all those although. We used to spend the evenings sitting around the dining room table listening to the radio. My mum would be sewing or darning, my sister and I would be drawing - there was always paper and pencils available in our house - and my dad might be filling in the football pools. Really good old days.

I listened to archived episodes of The Huggetts, The Glums, and Round The Horn, not so long ago on R4 Extra. Might still be available on BBC BBC Sounds.

I didn’t listen to Life with the Lyons myself, but I remember my older brother helpless with laughter at it. I suppose he was about 17.

I remember listening to Life with the Lyons but as an animal loving eight year old I was disappointed that there weren’t actually any lions in it. ?

Two way family favourites, London and Cologne.

I seem to remember that one time they had a link up with London, Cologne and somewhere else all together, but I don't remember which was the other place.

If I remember correctly, in Life with the Lyons they supposedly had three children, two of them their own real life children and one who was not.

I remember Life with the Lyon’s. Only remember two children; a son called Richard and a daughter who was a bit if a drama queen, called Barbara who went around constantly saying “I’ll die; I’ll just die!” Wasn’t the housekeeper’s name Aggie?

I don't remember Life with the Lyons, but I do remember laughing out loud to The Clitheroe Kid, maybe mid Sixties? My dad was a great fan of the wireless, it was on from early morning- The Shipping Forecast- through Housewives ' Choice with the catchy theme, lunchtime Light Programme concerts with Danny Street and Della ???, Mrs Dale's Diary and light comedy or Top of the Form in the evening.

I might have the timescale mixed up, but I do remember the great excitement of pirate radio ? before the arrival of Radio One, around 1966, 67?

I still have the radio on most of the day.

I remember so many if these you're all mentioning! Very fond memories. Dies any one remember The Men From the Ministry? It was a bit of an early forerunner for Yes Minister! Derek Guyler was in it, I think and he went on to play Corky, the policeman, with Eric Sykes & Hattie Jacques in their BBC sitcom.

Journey Into Space was on Sunday evening as well. My Dad and I used to wait all week for the next episode. Andrew Faulds, Allie Bass and David Jacobs and were in it I remember.

I remember 'Journey into Spaaace! yes that long drawn out space word. listened with older siblings but it frightened me.
