The Gdcs (6 and 7) really wanted to see this, so I took them today. I suppose dd and I should have checked more carefully, but it’s nothing like we expected, not remotely a gentle film like the original.

Wartime, bombs, a black American serviceman getting beaten up by their military police for consorting with a white woman, a young black American deserter hiding from them…

Gdcs do watch all sorts but they found it scary and upsetting, we left before the halfway point.
Just thought I’d mention for anyone else who might be thinking of taking relatively young children.

Thanks for that , it’s on my holiday list, I too thought it would be like the original.
Just to add, if you don’t want your ears assaulted by screaming gibberish for two hours, the new minions film is probably not for you

DD and I went to see The Railway Children Return today and I totally agree with you Witzend, it is not a childrens film. You did well to last as long as you did, I don’t think we would have lasted five minutes if DGD was with us.

I saw it, without the GC, and was a bit "meh" about it.

I went with 20 year old granddaughter and we both loved it.
