Who’s planning on watching this tonight on BBC1 at 9pm?

Starring the gorgeous Sean Bean and Nicola Walker.

Only snag, it’s written by the same bloke who wrote ‘Mum’, which most other GN’ers loved, and I thought was a load of nonsense.

I know I was in the minority.

Hope his latest effort is more to my taste.

But with Sean in it..,..smile?

Well that’s 4 hours of my life I’ll never get back. The last episode didn’t make anything clearer. I hope they don’t do another series because I’ll probably watch that too. If it was making a point about something I don’t understand what the point was.

Agree it’s awful and very disappointing as I liked Mum (although I did find it frustrating and longed for her to tell her dreadful son and her brother’s hideous gf a few home truths). It just doesn’t ring true at all - I don’t know anyone who swears all the time like Emma - am I odd? And if she’s a solicitor, what’s she doing working in that horrible office with an idiot boss that acts like a 15 year old? And what was the scene in the pub with the girl from the leisure centre taking too long in the toilet and then suddenly being engaged all about? Have to mute the sound immediately the horrendous ‘music’ comes on.

That's it in a nutshell BlueBelle.

Rubysong, that made me laugh !!! Just know what you mean. I kept commenting to my husband how untidy and boring their bedroom etc were !!! I mean, ….. so dull, let’s hope it improved though ??

madeleine45 Wed 17-Aug-22 16:36:17

Very disappointed . I have liked Nicola Walker in a lot of things and have been fed up with the endless games and athletics on the tv and looking forward to a play at last but SO SLOW, couldnt be bothered to watch it any more.

Nana4 Wed 17-Aug-22 16:35:58

So dull and disappointing, shame because they are actors I looked forward to watch….. as someone said, my husband and I are thrilling company next to these two …. Bring on the Royle Family, that was excellent, Catherine Aherne was brilliant.
Can’t be bothered to watch the rest but I guess I’ll give it a go ?‍♂️ One lives in hope !!!!!

SparklyGrandma Wed 17-Aug-22 16:21:04

Well, I am glad I am single. Boring or what.

I think that their body language doesn’t gel together for me….

Rosy2 Wed 17-Aug-22 16:21:01

Watched the first episode and thought that I couldn’t bear the slowness anymore but binged watched today and got to grips with it and it’s poignancy. Really enjoyed it so glad I returned and gave it a go.

Doglessfornow Wed 17-Aug-22 16:15:39

I was bored out of my mind! Love both the actors, Bute erytime I woke up, there was another meaningful silence. I’d rather watch paint dry, or Sean Bean “doing it for Yorkshire“!

Camelotclub Wed 17-Aug-22 16:04:34

A friend watched this and said it was very banal with awful dialogue. I said that was like most marriages! TV drama these days seems to be either mutilated women and detectives with dysfunctional private lives or banality like this Marriage, reflecting back to us what our lives are like. I say bring back Dr Foster! That one was good.

Bluedaisy Wed 17-Aug-22 16:03:20

Tanith, no I agree it was extremely slow to the point I was getting annoyed and bored. Don’t think I shall bother carrying on watching, such a shame as I was looking forward to it.

Doodledog Wed 17-Aug-22 16:01:50

I am away just now and don't have access to iPlayer other than on devices, so am going to wait till I get home and binge it. I didn't enjoy the first episode, but will give it a chance.

Ellie Anne Wed 17-Aug-22 15:58:36

Well I’ve watched 3 and will watch 4 soon. It’s a bit different. But I don’t think the swearing fits in with the characters.

BlueBelle Wed 17-Aug-22 15:54:11

I m loving it spoke to my daughter and my work mate and they re both loving it too
I agree susieq it’s all the underlying not spoken things that make it so intriguing ….one of the best I ve seen for a long time
It makes you enquire and think and imagine I think it’s extremely well play it must be so much easier to play a full on loving or nasty shouting part than have to play an
such an underwhelming partnership
Purposely not binge watching as I want to look forward to it

rocketstop Wed 17-Aug-22 15:52:16

I watched it on catch up, hated it, stared out of the window. Nicola Walker and Sean Bean usually very good, just looked as though they were 'Acting' I'm afraid life is too short to persevere with another episode, I get that it's supposed to be a slow burner, but it was painful to watch. Actually I made my own dialogue up cos I couldn't even HEAR it half the time.
Shame cos I was looking forward to it.

Bazza there are marriages and marriages

Dianehillbilly1957 Wed 17-Aug-22 15:40:00

Not seen it yet, but heard it's like watching paint dry! I usually love anything Nicola Walker is in, so disappointed to hear this. I will watch at least one episode and judge for myself.

Van Der Valk is on ITV at the same time Lucca.

I much prefer Van der Valk too

What is the connection between van dear valk and this programme ?

Susieq62 Wed 17-Aug-22 15:10:48

The point of this drama is that marriage can be dull, stressful, full of nothing at times. I think it is enthralling in its dullness. My partner is hooked and very concerned that he is the character played by Sean Bean. There is so much not being said, simmering beneath the surface.

CV2020 Wed 17-Aug-22 15:09:14

I watched the first episode. It was awful despite a great cast. I would have had more fun watching paint dry to be honest!

pascal30 Wed 17-Aug-22 15:00:09

I much prefer Van der Valk too

FranT Wed 17-Aug-22 14:21:06

Absolute boring garbage, watched the first episode waiting for something of interest to happen, it didn't, end of story for me I'm afraid!

Bazza Wed 17-Aug-22 14:20:48

I’ve watched two episodes so far and am quite perplexed that two such excellent actors have been persuaded to star in such utter crap! There’s nothing ringing true to me atm. Is this what a long marriage is like? Mine certainly isn’t, I would have legged it years ago. I agree that the bad language, not that it bothered me, just doesn’t seem appropriate. I read most of the newspaper reviews who all gave it five stars. And the music!! Who is responsible for that? I feel obliged to watch the other episodes but reading these posts am not holding my breath. The first thing I’ve seen with Nichola Walker that I haven’t liked.

harrysgran Wed 17-Aug-22 13:59:11

Loved every episode of Mum but this was like watching paint dry I stuck it out and watched all four episodes hoping it might improve.
