Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

It amuses me sometimes when the trendies say they love brief encounter/Shawshank redemption/ it's a wonderful life etc etc. Knowing full well that they often traipse these out because it's fashionable! My SiL is an avid trend follower regardless of how relevant or true ( it is) not many say Jurassic park/ home alone /Wizard of Oz or any of the popular kidult movies that wowed us all with innovative effects of their time! My faves are Green Mile/gladiator/and the gerrlorious The Sound of Music as the top Banana for me!! Saw it 9 times before 'Binge 'was a noun for movies and they were called " films" know every single word of every song and our choir have a medley we now sing too, alpine heaven......

Whose trying to be fashionable traipsing out their favourite films?
Too many favourites to choose for me, but my current love is “Midnight in Paris”,

The Great Escape, Zulu and Ice Cold in Alex for me.

The Godfathers for me too. I have a cd of the first two in chronological order, so I’d take that, followed by the inferior (imho) but still watchable Godfather 3.

And if I wasn’t bothered about getting my money’s worth - High Noon.

Another of my favourite films is the 1940 version of Pride and Prejudice with Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson.

My favourite ever film is The Commitments but for a big audience I would show the Sound of Music. It's practically unknown here in Germany.

The nineteen forties Little Women. With June Allyson, Janet Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Margaret O’ Brian and Peter Lawford.

If I had to choose just one film as my favorite, it would be a tough call, but I think I would have to go with "The Shawshank Redemption." I love the story of hope and friendship set against the backdrop of a brutal prison system. The acting is superb, and the cinematography is simply stunning. Every time I watch it, I find something new to appreciate. It's just a perfect film in every way cafe

'Brief Encounter', for me too. I'm not a 'trendy' either. To me it's very evocative of the times; many different characters and sub stories going on too. Very atmospheric, in black and white, with the steam trains adding to all the drama.

I was a student at Lancaster Uni back in the late 70's and my Uni friends and I had a 40th reunion in Lancaster in late 2019. One of the events we enjoyed was to go on a 'pilgrimage' to nearby Carnforth railway station where the film was made. It was a fab day, even got the ubiquitous tea towel! The museum was very good, sat in the tearoom having cake and tea for what seemed like hours! Happy times.

Yammy

"A river runs through it". with a gorgeous young Brad Pitt.
Before that definitely "Casablanca", they both make sniff.

Have you seen Legends of the Fall and Meet Joe Black? two more great films with a young Brad Pitt

dolphindaisy Tue 06-Sept-22 09:39:58

Definitely WITNESS the chemistry between Harrison Ford and Kelly McGuiness lights up the screen
Also never get tired of watching The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven especially because of Steve McQueen

Athrawes Tue 06-Sept-22 09:35:03

Dr Zhivago
South Pacific

Yes. Great films terribull!

The Godfathers every time. I was so knocked out by the first one when I first saw it, particularly the interlude where Michael flees to Sicily and the accompanying soundtrack. There was a compilation put together a few years ago of all three whereby sections were taken from the first two films so there was a chronological order to the narrative commencing with young Vito fleeing to America.

fiorentina51 yes, and such a bitter-sweet ending too.

Jaxjacky Mon 05-Sept-22 21:56:32

The Hunger, David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve, music Bauhaus.
I’ve watched it just a few times ?

fiorentina51 Mon 05-Sept-22 21:46:34

Another vote for Witness. The culture clash between the Amish and a modern cop. The love interest between Harrison Ford's character and that of Kelly McGillis' and the tension of the search for a killer.
Added interest is watching Ford demonstrating his carpentry skills.
I also liked the music too.
