Recently found this on Iplayer and love it. Lesley Manville is a fantastic actress and it’s funny and easy to watch. Anyone else watched the series?

Watched it when it was on the TV. Loved it.

Yes I watched this right from the start. I really enjoyed it, some great characters, love the in laws smile It’s funny with some very touching moments. Lesley Manville plays Cathy perfectly and Peter Mullen is great as the awkward Michael. You’re just willing them to get it together. Great theme tune too.

I loved “Mum” too when it was on TV - so much so I bought the box set DVD as I know I will want to watch all through again.

Lesley Manville is indeed a fantastic actress but as the series went on I started to dislike the character of "Mum" more and more.

Watched it all and loved it. Gently paced but lovely to see the relationships grow/mature. Recommended!

What channel was it on? (thinking, can I watch again free on my computer?)

Shirleyw Thu 06-Oct-22 20:53:47

oh, love 'mum', watched the box set on iplayer...

Calendargirl Thu 06-Oct-22 20:56:28

Hated it.

Thought what a doormat she was, with the gormless son, even more gormless girlfriend and foul mouthed in laws.

I loved it but please watch it again as the subtly of the behaviours really comes out when you watch it again smile

I honestly think it is the best series set I have ever watched and i've watched loads

I loved that series and recently watched it again such good acting.

Recently watched the entire series. What a joy - all the characters are brilliant. The actor playing ‘Michael’ - how could she not love him, he made me cry - such terrific acting.
Totally recommend this tale of a warm and slightly bonkers family who so love ‘Mum’

I loved it, though Michael annoyed me a wee bit!

Wow! Praise indeed. I’ll definitely have to watch it now.
(My dad’s wife looks very like Lesley Manville)

I tried to like the first series but really didn’t.She is an really good actress, and I liked her character but it was all the others, as to me they were caricatures and the script unbelievable.

I liked her but also wanted to slap her. Loved the series tho.

I agree with JaneJudge, it’s worth re-watching it. I enjoyed it the first time, loved it the second time. Peter Mullan is a sheer delight to watch.

I love Peter Mullan too
In the last series of Mum, I can't remember what episode but when he talks to Kathy outside in the rain after all the other blokes make a show of their masculinity...it was the most tender and loving performance
and God I still cry when i've watched it more than twice blush
