Why so few British professionals on Strictly 2022?

Strictly is a BBC show, which has been exported to so many countries. When it started out years ago, many of the pro dancers were British. The likes of Matthew Cutler, Ian Waite, Darren Bennet, Karen Hardy, AJ Pritchard, Kevin and Joanne Clifton, Neil Jones etc etc. Does the UK not have the pro dancers to showcase? Should we not be supporting and promoting home grown dance professionals. Maybe our dancers appear on the Strictly shows abroad, I don’t know, but I would like to see more UK dancers on Strictly. I still love the show though.

Strictly has world class dance professionals and I don’t mind where they were born.
They all add their magic to the Show.

Got to agree with Tilly and Kitty. It hasn't entered my head.

I think they just pick the best dancers regardless of nationality

I don’t think there have ever been a lot of British dancers in a series, there are two this year but the average is probably only three or four over the years?

The pro dancers are wonderful. The selection of celebs this year is woeful

The selection of celebs this year is woeful.

Strictly has been running since 2004. They must have used up all the main ‘pool’ of potential contestants, plus there are so many celeb reality shows and competitions. You think “ Oh, was she on Dancing On Ice the other year?”

And some you would expect to be on have turned it down. I heard Alexander Armstrong admit recently that he had been asked to appear, but declined.

Plus if they are working full time on other shows, or acting in a soap say, it’s a huge commitment to dance in Strictly.

if you don't apply for a job you do not get it do you.....

the professional dancers are not doing nothing if they are not on strictly, they will be working in the 'big London stage shows ect. joanne clifton has been in many.

I think I many of the professionals use Strictly as a springboard to their future careers.
