Which series do you binge watch for comfort ?

Just realised that this week I have watched all the episodes of Dinnerladies again. Somehow I find it comforting and love watching Victoria Wood as Brenda with Julie Walters as her mum. It's not challenging and has a feel good message.
Wondered whether anyone else has a go to tv or film series when you feel a bit low ?

I absolutely love The walking Dead🙂

My Dd got me into the Walking Dead a few weeks ago. It’s amazing. After you get over the Zombies and get into everyone’s back story and everything that’s going on it’s a fantastic show. We love it. We’re on series 5 and can’t wait to binge watch of an evening.

1st series of Outlander, filmed in Scotland, I'm less keen on it when they moved to France & America though they are still good, that 1st series is inspired though

Absolutely love outlander. I found they got better after every series. Characters really come to life.

Birds of a Feather, Fools and Horses and Rising Damp, Keeping Up Appearances. I can't stand Doc Martin. Glad it's over.

I wouldn't say I watch it for comfort, but simply because I think it's one of the best crime dramas of the past few years, The Unforgotten, I recently watched all of them all over again. Oh to have something of that standard more often, the pairing of Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar's characters and the slow evolving but utterly compelling plot made it compulsive viewing for me.

A few years ago I quite enjoyed watching Delia Smith's Christmas food preparation around the end of the year.

I've also re watched the first Brideshead Revisited I was completely captivated by it back in the '80s.

The original BBC All Creatures Great and Small. It was far more faithful to the books than the latest channel 5 series, which l find mawkish and anachronistic as they try to promote 21st century ideals into the 1930s.

Afternoons during Lockdown and other days, we watched a series about canals,Country house gent, loved it so calming and peaceful.Alzo loved an Auxsie series called My Greek Odyssey. One was on YouTube and the other on Netflix.

I love dinner ladies too and Oh doctor Beeching. I’m watching On the busses and that series with Leonard Rossiter who plays the skinflint landlord of student flats. I can’t remember the name.

I ended up binge watching 'The Crown'. My daughter was watching it once when I visited her, I was so gobsmacked at how the writers had guessed what was said behind closed doors, that I started watching it. I kept saying to my daughter, there is no way we would know what was said and what really happened. The writers certainly took some big guesses. Its a shame they didn't change all the names and make it more fantasy. We would still know who it was based on, but it would be slightly less misleading for history buffs.

The original All Creatures Great and Small, Doc Martin, Morse, Dinner Ladies, all Victoria Wood , Heartbeat, Gogglebox, used to like HIGNFY but it's getting a bit tired I feel, House of Games, Repair Shop, Escape to the Country.

madeleine45 Sun 30-Oct-22 16:26:17

Oh yes, Dinner Ladies are always worth another watch. Victoria Woods was so great (am now humming the ballad of Barry and ? !) , Last Tango in Halifax, Downton Abbey particularly for the wonderful Maggie Smith put downs, and recently they have had the original Upstairs Downstairs on and have watched a few of those , but I enjoy University challenge, Mastermind and Only Connect. I dont have Netflix or any of that but watch out round about Christmas for old favourites that my husband and I used to enjoy. Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and African Queen , Railway children the old version with Bernard Cribbs as Perks and Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard and of course good versions of Pride and Prejudice with the appalling Lady Catherine de Bourg but actually I much prefer the radio to listen to Bach , Chopin, Mozart Goretsky, Piazzolla etc etc and any decent plays where you can still do jobs but be able to listen. Ah well looks like rain so had better rescue my washing

I go to the original Poldark, the scenery may be a bit stagey but the acting is great.

Grandmagrewit Sun 30-Oct-22 16:01:01

The wonderfully witty Frasier never fails to cheer me up and I've been gradually working my way through all the 264 episodes on More4. It takes me back to a time when I was a similar age to the characters and the scriptwriting is just superb.

Blondiescot Sun 30-Oct-22 15:55:36

Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones (along with House of the Dragon now too). If I'm in need of some light relief, I do enjoy Motherland and Derry Girls.
