Alexa commands

Do you know any Alexa commands that others might like ?

If you hear a song/music you like on Alexa you say ‘Alexa I like’ and Alexa will start a list of your favourite music.

You can then say ‘Alexa play my favourite music’

If you play Alexa through your radio and if by some chance this isn’t working and it’s just coming from the speaker you just need to say ‘Alexa connect to the speaker’.

Over to you.

My DGS likes to ask Alexa to fart!

I ask Alexa/Ziggy all sorts of things. I can't receive a radio signal as I'm in a dead spot between hills. I ask Alexa to play the radio when I'm working in the kitchen.
If you ask for a particular song you can say "Alexa play more like that" and she will play music of a similar genre.

As well as most of the above suggestions I use Alexa as an oven timer when I’m at my daughter’s house. I find her oven too complicated and can’t figure out the timer . So I just say Alexa set an alarm for 15 mins.

I like the question of the day, it is a general knowledge question every day.

I also use it to play podcasts and listen to audio books.

Some fun things to ask.

"Alexa, do you know Siri?"
"Alexa, open the pod bay doors"
"Alexa, will you marry me?"

Does anyone know how Alexa works on my Amazon fire stick remote? It has Alexa on the remote but I've never used it. The fire stick is plugged into the back of my TV which is not a smart TV.

Didn’t realise the Firestick has Alexa. I use it for my photos etc

My DGS likes to ask Alexa to fart!

So does mine! He also asks for fart jokes.

I make my shopping list on Alexa (Ziggy in my house obviously!) When I run out of anything I just ask Ziggy to add so and so to my shopping list and it appears in my phone app so I can refer to it when I'm out shopping. I still forget things though!

I use Alexa for the local weather and on the whole she is accurate. I also ask for Flash Briefings because I cannot always be bothered to listen to the news for 15 minutes via Alexa. I have some visual impairment so she is a boon for timers, the actual time and as an alarm clock.

We use Google rather than Alexa. When DH asks Google a question it responds with “Ok Gramps, ………..”. This totally freaked out DGD when she first heard it. As did “Ok Google, what does a ghost sound like” shortly after the got the Oliver Jeffers book about ghosts last Christmas which she loves. Now she’s 4 she finds it funny.

We set reminder days and weeks ahead for an hour or so before dental appointments etc. I have books on my kindle and I like to listen to a book when I go to bed and in the night if I cannot sleep . I ask her to read the book I want then say " sleep timer 30 minutes ' so I do not miss any of the book . She will skip forwards or backwards in the book as well . In the night I might ask her for the sound of the sea or birdsong to lull me to sleep . Having started a book on one device you can pick it up on any other ones you own . I quite like the fact that it is the same voice reading all the books unless I play an Audible book .
We listen to all different radio stations and you can catch up on programmes you have missed on BBC via Sounds.
We use her all the time for timers and you can state what the timer is for if you set more than one. I have a long playlist of my favourite classical music that I listen to when ironing . If I hear something I like I just ask to add it to my playlist. At any time she will get you the news headlines and you can expand a subect on it if you want more information. I also like the fact that you can ask her to announce something like " dinner is ready" . DH and I have one in each of our bedrooms so if one of us was unwell we could announce that fact and it would get the message to the other's bedroom.

DD2 uses it as a timer before bedtime - DGS2 can now change it - Alexa cancel timer, Alexa set timer for 100 minutes! He is 4!
