I can really recommend The Keeper on iPlayer. It was just a random pick but it's based on a true story and very moving.

Thanks - I'll watch it.

Thanks, looks like my kind of thing - odds overcome, enemies realise they are human beings, etc?

I worked with someone who was half German. Her dad was a prisoner of war who married an English woman and during the film I was thinking of how difficult that must have been straight after the war. I wish I'd asked her more about it at the time.

Thanks for recommending this. Watched it last night after reading this thread and loved it.

It was difficult after the war. My school mates called me nazi when I started school in the early 50 s. They didn’t understand any more than I did, but we all knew it wasn’t a compliment!

Forgot to watch it: thankfully it’s still on iplayer so I’ll watch it tomorrow. Things seem to disappear off iplayer too quickly.

Oh, thanks Sparklefizz. I am looking for something to watch - the football has killed TV just now. I have a million channels, but can't find anything I want to watch.

I mentioned Bert Trautmann to DH and he knew who he was straight away so I’ll probably watch it again with him. Having googled him he’s regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers ever. I thought the film was a bit lightweight until I remembered that it was based on a true story so I cowardly had to Google him to find out where the story was going. I had to do that with a film about boxing years ago: was too scared to watch the ending till I knew what was going to happen.

DH watched it today when I went shopping. He loved it. It is a bit sad, though. We were both very moved by it. Lovely film, though.
