So, they go on their usual two week Xmas break and, also as usual leave us on the edge of our seats wondering if Karen is going to survive her heart attack with no-one there.

Last year they left Jimmy in prison worring me all the way throught the holidays (Okay, I do know it is not really real).

They seem to have lost their very best character, Valerie - her hilarious antics were so very uplififting. They are trying to cover serious financial problems with Scarlett and her dad. As she was brought in when Valerie and Karen made it quite clear that a t least three rew receptionists were needed, wonder if they are going to bring in someone else new soon.

For me this is just about the best Soap on our screens at present. And, it does manage to cover important stories such as rape, poverty, etc. etc and still keep enough fun, lighthearted stories going to make it good entertainent. Will look forward to 2nd January when it returns.

Oh no! Valerie is leaving? I haven't watched that bit yet.

I do love Doctors. It is what I watch when I'm stressed or anxious or depressed.

Rather pathetically, (because of it's role as a destresser for me) the theme tune is what is listen to when I'm flying, for take off. I have a huge flying phobia and it is the only thing that really helps calm me a little.

I have often happened upon doctors and really enjoyed it. Since I came out of hospital I am hooked!!

G.P's might go on holiday over Christmas on T.V.
If it as it was 10 years ago hospital ones had a rota they took turns to work Christmas and New year.
At one time they had to take their wives and children in to see them cut the Christmas Turkey. One year we went in,DH got called to theatre and I knew my Turkey would be ruined. So I took the children home in the car he came home many hours later in a taxi to a cold Christmas Dinner.

I love Doctors, it’s sad to see Valerie go.

Did Princess see what happened to Karen from the car park and save the day?

I’ve even googled to see if I could find out what’s happening, nothing on Digital Spy either except that Valerie was leaving.

Excuse me but some of us are weeks behind on Doctors !
I demand a 'spoiler' alert on threads like this!
Seriously though , I pay 5 euros a month for BBCPrime in
Europe. 80% of which is unbelievable comedy repeats and
the rest is Bargain Hunt or old Doctor Who. However Doctors
and Casulty are only slightly behind and I watch them regularly.

I was saddened by the latest episode of Doctors, which I enjoy immensely, but the scripts are somewhat unrealistic. I find it hard to believe that even someone as daft as Valerie would forge a prescription and not realise the consequences. Also, she would have been given formal notification of her suspension; the meeting to discuss the consequences would not have taken place immediately, she would have been allowed representation and an appeal. I thought she would be pressured into resignation.
I do hope she is leaving because she has another role elsewhere, not just sacrificed on the altar of ratings.

And just to clarify, it was Scarlett who broke the machine Princess 'donated', wasn't it? Did anyone know?

Beechnut Sat 17-Dec-22 13:52:49

I wondered if Princess came back in and saved Karen and like you LadyGracie I googled.

LadyGracie Sat 17-Dec-22 14:53:48

It can be very far fetched as others have said but the subject matter is excellent.

I wish my doctors surgery was so amenable.

Deedaa Sun 18-Dec-22 21:12:09

eazybee it was the actress's decision to leave. She will be touring in a play. Apparently she intended to leave a couple of years ago but stayed because of Covid.

I will miss Valerie as well, she was annoying at times but a great character. I do know what happens with Karen but won't put it on here to spoil things.
It's an excellent soap Franbern even if it has odd episodes which veer into the ridiculous. I am quite engaged with all the characters.

Beechnut Mon 02-Jan-23 18:36:41

I thought Karen must have survived when I read what happens on the tv menu yesterday. Wasn’t expecting Luca though.

kittylester Mon 02-Jan-23 19:16:49

Isn't it good to have it back though? How ever silly.

sodapop Mon 02-Jan-23 21:04:27

Yes indeed kittylester it's something my husband & I both like which is unusual in itself. What on earth will happen in reception with Valerie gone and Karen recuperating, only leaves Scarlett.

eazybee Mon 02-Jan-23 22:28:25

Thank you Deeda, I am glad Valerie has gone on to something else. Will Princess be drafted back in on Reception to hold the fort?
After all the dire TV over Christmas it was a pleasant surprise to see Doctors has started up again, although this is number 143 out of 147, (or something similar.)

Franbern Wed 04-Jan-23 08:33:16

eazybee, yes current series No. 147 is next Monday and the Tuesday seems new series 1 out of 200.

I was surprised to see Princess still in the cast. Has the shock of what happened to Karen after their row finally got through to her what a nasty person she has been and are we going to see a new, pleasant person take their place back at The Mill.

Surely, Bear will be needing, urgently, to get some temporary reception cover. I can remember that was how Valerie originally arrived there. So, hopefully a new fun character is on the horizon.

LadyGracie Wed 04-Jan-23 09:53:04

I’m glad it’s back and it’s good to see Luca.

Grantanow Wed 04-Jan-23 12:21:05

Never watched it but we did watch 'Doctor in the House' on dvd over Xmas. Very funny and a great performance by James Robertson Justice as Sir Lancelot Pratt on the consultant's ward round. Hospitals are not like that anymore.

Franbern Fri 06-Jan-23 15:45:05

* Grantanow* that very old film has no relationships to the Soap called Doctors, which is what this thread is about. My goodness, it is an old film (what's the bleeding time?). But closer to Carry on Doctor than real life. Mind you the Mill GP practice is what we would like real life GP practices to be now.

I am still rather concerned about the Scarlett and her Dad's poverty story line. Thee is help for them out there, if they would look for, and access it. Note that she still managed to turn up for work each day in a variety of clothes and all very clean looking - so how is she supposed to be managing to wash these.

sodapop Fri 06-Jan-23 17:05:48

I really want to slap Scarlett's father can he not see how worn down the poor girl is.
Maybe Karen will realise the difficulties they are in, Bear is oblivious.

Franbern Sat 07-Jan-23 07:01:04

So, appears as if we are back to the four episodes each week - wonder why that is.

sodapop Sat 07-Jan-23 07:07:06

Father Brown has a new series, it replaced Doctors yesterday. I must say it lacked a certain something without Mrs McCarthy.

Yes, I missed her and also Bunty (Emer Kenny).

I love Doctors as a destressor too. I also love the way a patient can go in, demand to see a doctor without an appointment and they get the doctor who immediately seems to come out to check their pigeon hole. Pure fantasy but I love it!
