Oh, I ended the last thread.

Oh, a 9 from Craig

My winner of choice would have been Fleur, then Molly, Helen and Hamza.

Certainly Hamza felt the music and rhythm but the foot and arm work from the others was far better in my opinion.

Gorka always reminds me of Novak Djokevic in looks.

Good job he didn’t have a tennis racquet in his hand when they announced the results.

Lollin Tue 20-Dec-22 06:44:32

I imagine Kevin Clifton would be a good professional for Gorka to chat with , he was in the final five times before he/his celebrity won. I did feel sorry for Gorka though he looked so sad or maybe he was just tired.

Sara1954 Tue 20-Dec-22 06:14:09

I agree with volver.
I don’t know what technical points the judges are looking for, don’t know if the footwork is perfect or not.
But I know how it makes me feel, and I would guess that it’s the same for most of the voting public.

TwiceAsNice Tue 20-Dec-22 01:49:22

Very disappointed he won the girls were all much better. Poor Gorka three times in the final and never won I voted for Fleur and Helen . Hamza was over marked all the way through

Fleurpepper Mon 19-Dec-22 21:56:42

Strictly is a public show, with public vote- so dancing will always take second place to personality, etc.

Joseanne Mon 19-Dec-22 21:47:56

Dance isn't just about being technically perfect and following the rules. Its about how it makes you feel.
I think volver has a point here. I might have said before, (NOT boasting), that I went to dancing lessons 3 times a week, and have a haul of over 100 medals, some All England Dance (Sunshine competition) finals. I certainly wasn't the best dancer or the most technically perfect, but I danced with feeling and expression. All the other mothers just knew I would win the character classes, the song & dance and the national class, but when it came to boring tap I found it difficult to put an interpretation on the dance and so never got highly placed.
Just like in Strictly, different dances suit different people. Molly, having gone to theatre school, would have had instruction in the various styles and her training showed, but maybe she was too polished for what the show wanted. I think the same thing happened to Ashley Roberts from PussyCat Dolls who had studied modern dance and was by far the best dancer. Stacey Dooley won, even though she wasn't a dancer, but the public liked her more.

Casdon was replying to your rudeness

I wasn’t rude though, I just queried what point you were making?

Casdon Mon 19-Dec-22 21:27:21

Crikey lemsip, no need to be rude. Hamza had said he had no professional dance experience, which was true. Is attending a dance class at university newsworthy, when two of the other three contestants had far more experience? I don’t know that it is, and I don’t think it made any difference to the end result, given that it was in the news before the final.

Lyndylou Mon 19-Dec-22 21:22:22

You know Candelle I have thought that Hamza has been over marked by the judges all the way through and then last week Will got marked down and we end up with a Final with 3 females and 1 man. A lovely man, even my 2 year old GS knows Ranger Hamza and likes watching him, but I feel the BBC have been subtlely manipulating the viewers this year in order to raise his profile.

lemsip Mon 19-Dec-22 21:14:38

Casdon I'm not making a point! I'm showing a news item
that is all over the news fgs

Casdon Mon 19-Dec-22 21:01:21

Molly went to stage school, and Helen won tap dancing awards lemsip, I’m not sure what point you’re making - are you saying Fleur should have won because she had none?

I'd be more inclined to think this was a serious criticism if the reporter hadn't talked about "Gaelic dance". 🕺🏼 🤪

Callistemon21 Mon 19-Dec-22 20:55:26

Hamza Yassin claimed to have no professional dance experience before taking part in the BBC One show, but an unearthed video appears to prove different.

Oh, so he took part in an end-of-term amateur show at university but the media have to try to claim he was a professional dancer.

🕺

lemsip Mon 19-Dec-22 20:50:15

It has been found that Hamza had been taught to dance while at uni. he danced advanced Pasa Doble and Salsa.

Allsorts

The judges got what they wanted. I won’t watch it again. It’s supposed to be what the public want.not a chance.

I thought Hamza came bottom of the leader board after the judges' votes?

volver Mon 19-Dec-22 20:23:50

Molly and Fleur were regularly in the dance off because the public weren't voting for them. They didn't appeal.

The public wanted Hamza or Helen. They were never in the dance off. Hamza won. That's it.

Perhaps if you didn't FF through the show you'd get a feeling for what we're all talking about Candelle wink

I think its been a few years since the "best" dancer won. Maybe never! Dance isn't just about being technically perfect and following the rules. Its about how it makes you feel.

Ach, I'm an old romantic!

Candelle Mon 19-Dec-22 18:10:17

I must be on an alternative planet! I thought that the programme was about the best dancer winning and in no context was the winner a better dancer than the other candidates. A better weightlifter, yes (when did lifting one's partner horizontally above one's head come into the category of dancing?).

I admit to recording the whole programme then whizzing through and watching the dance itself followed by the judges scores. This means that I am not entranced/captivated/bored by all the waffle in between and can concentrate purely on the dancing. Hamza did very little in the way of dancing, except running around the dance floor or kicking his legs out with his hands, span-like most of the time.

Compare Hamza's dancing ability to the other candidates is like chalk and cheese and I am surprised that there have not been more complaints about his winning.

I do wonder if somehow - and I don't know how (but think back to previous shenanigans on this programme.....) - that the producers are heavily involved in the result. I feel that the judges were ordered to mark Hamza up throughout as if he were being nursed through the process and into the final.

I am sure he is a lovely chap and a great TV presenter but the best dancer of the four in the final he was not!

Grannmarie Sun 18-Dec-22 22:53:12

DGS2 and I watched Hamza on CBEEBIES, 'Let's go for a walk '.

MerylStreep

Here’s another he’s done.

www.channel4.com/programmes/scotland-escape-to-the-wilderness

Thanks. I’ll look out for him.

He was good but I’m surprised he won.

Nanatoone Sun 18-Dec-22 18:39:30

I shouldn’t have been surprised that Hamza won but I was. He was good but the ladies were all better. I was totally torn between the magnificent Fleur and the wonderful Helen myself. Molly was a joy but somehow missed the mark.

Clawdy Sun 18-Dec-22 17:05:33

Liked Helen and Fleur, but so glad Hamza won.
