Just a reminder that this will be shown on BBC1 , on Sat, Christmas Eve, at 4.55.

Looking forward to it.

Wonderful book - my DD bought it for me when I was having treatment.

I've just seen in the TV mag that it's repeated on Christmas Day at 9 am if that's more convenient which is when I'll try to catch up with it.

I've got the book and it's delightful, isn't it?

I recorded this and watched it last night, but I had watched the programme about the making of the film, on catch up, and so got much more out of the book when I re- read it.
Charlie Mackesy looked so lost at times. I got quite emotional and the book now has more meaning to me.

I loved the screen graphics of the book’s illustrations - just beautiful - but the languid style of the story made me think it may be too slow paced to capture some children’s imagination.
Just my opinion.

I loved it, but I can see where you're coming from, TillyTrotter - I don't think my GS would have sat through it (but he can't sit still for 5 seconds anyway).

Beautifully illustrated but rather trite.

Urmstongran Thu 29-Dec-22 14:21:22

I. Watched it. The drawings were beautiful. I think if anyone suffering from anxiety or low self esteem watched it, they’d find reassurance and comfort in the little homilies. I was just glad it only lasted 30 minutes.

I love it in my opinion one of the best things on all Christmas

Wyllow3 Thu 29-Dec-22 14:43:27

I agree. I've kept it. I'd say profound, not trite.

I ordered the book, hardback £10, lovely quality - for me.

However Tilly I too wondered about it for many of today's children used to more speed and drama. did anyone watch with children?

Callistemon21 Thu 29-Dec-22 14:48:55

I think it's more a book and film for adults than most children.

We bought the book the other day and I took it round to my neighbour who had a mental health crisis. I read her some of it and we had lots of hugs. I’m hoping it helps her. It’s a beautiful book.

It is a lovely book, especially to dip into. But, personally I found the film too slow.

pandapatch Thu 29-Dec-22 17:52:06

I sent it to my DD when she was having a heard time and she said it helped. It is a beautiful book and I loved the film, but sure my 4 year old grandson wouldn't have watched it. The rapper Snoop Dogg does affirmations for children that he likes.

I'd never heard of this book, but it looks lovely and I will watch it on Iplayer. What was the title of the programme about making it, as I would like to watch that too?

Wyllow3 Thu 29-Dec-22 18:00:50

Oh yes, I'd like to know about "how it was made". the author, I found when I was ordering the book, has written others of presumably similar ilk.

ShazzaKanazza yes, I think its that profound. "its OK to feel fear" and the horse "its OK to ask for help" and at the end - home is where the heart is, and admitting vulnerability is not just Ok, but can draw you closer to others through the honesty"
