Anyone watching? Very grim, but compelling as always. Last ever series too.

I loved the scene where Catherine rescued Ryan from the bullying teacher

Oh yes, that was wonderful. But Ryan knew where he stood with his Grandma too when she took his lighter (or was it a vape?) from him.

Eh up! The cafe scene was filmed in Bolton
Lancashire had to get in on the act!!
😂😂😂

Eeh bah gum, weren't the woollen mills in Yorkshire?

By 'eck, we'll be in Staffordshire next, me duck!

TerriBull

I did wonder when she was in the cafe on the phone to her sister, yes she's great too, whether she was going to say "Are you sure it's Leeds your in and not Sheffield?"

As for trouble at’t’mill being Yorkshire, tell that to my grannie and grandpa who worked in Lancashire mills in the 20’s and 30’s when trouble at t mill meant half time or closed down.

Sally Wainwright is a genius. The cast of Happy Valley superb.
Interesting thought about the awful gym teacher and drugs rings. He has a big house and car on a teachers salary. His temper made me wonder about steroids.

I found the previous series brilliant but I did have to watch parts of it behind a cushion.
I find the acting absolutely fantastic from all of the actors but some of the episodes in the previous 2 series really did affect me.

Atqui Mon 09-Jan-23 17:51:08

I watched series 1 rather compulsively , as the acting was great ,but certain scenes still stick in my memory. James Norton is such a fantastic versatile actor, that I wanted to watch series two and 3 .I found the first episode of each so dark and was reminded of the effect the first series had on me that I didn’t continue. I must be a dreadful wimp. Did anyone else find the series disturbing?

Calendargirl Mon 09-Jan-23 17:34:45

I think it’s great that they are only available week by week.

Something to look forward to.

Chestnut Mon 09-Jan-23 17:18:58

Zoejory I like to watch one episode per evening rather than one episode per week. I wanted to wait and watch them all at the end but couldn't wait! Still, they do give a rundown at the start of each episode so you should be okay.

Zoejory Mon 09-Jan-23 16:04:04

I just want to binge watch it. My memory is appalling and I forget. The Beeb doesn't seem to do the on demand whole series malarkey but I wish they did.
.
We binge watched a Light in the Hall the other day. Brilliant. Channel 4.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 09-Jan-23 16:00:57

I can't wait to see what happens next.

Our sisters on Mumsnet have a theory that the gym teacher is running a drugs ring, probably for Knezevics due to his 'knocking a pupil down then building them up and reeling them in' as his wife related to the chemist.

Sets the old brain cells rumbling, doesn't it?

Chestnut Mon 09-Jan-23 16:00:23

How is the café scene going to play out? I think Catherine will just sit down and say 'I'm not going to say anything. You're going to do the talking.' She doesn't need to say any more than that!

Callistemon21 Mon 09-Jan-23 15:50:17

I enjoyed the interview with the Head Teacher and the nasty PE teacher too.

CatsCatsCats Mon 09-Jan-23 15:50:04

I can hardly wait until next week! How is the cafe scene going to play out?

Maggiemaybe Mon 09-Jan-23 14:57:09

I loved the fact that they let the tension build and build in the cafe scene - it was so effective. A lesser scriptwriter would have had Catherine just marching straight up to her sister and shouting the odds.

TerriBull Mon 09-Jan-23 14:43:17

I meant to add to my post above, Sarah Lancashire, she's come a long way from Coronation Street, absolutely superb, under stated performance, even if she does mumble at times, that's all part of the world weary Catherine's persona which is so very believable. Malevolent Jesus look alike, James Norton very, very good, certainly shows his versatility as an actor in this. Definitely the best thing on tv at the moment.

Redhead56 Mon 09-Jan-23 14:23:53

Brilliant I have to admit a secret crush on James Norton same age as my son shameful! It is very good last nights was excellent I was shouting at the tv go into the cafe!

kittylester Mon 09-Jan-23 14:08:31

I love it. And, embarrassingly, James Norton, who is, also, a brilliant actor.

Chestnut Mon 09-Jan-23 14:00:25

As she sat at the table outside watching her sister sitting inside, we were all thinking Go and sit at the table!!!
Then she did...............

HousePlantQueen Mon 09-Jan-23 13:56:32

Last night's episode was brilliant, I felt her disappointment with her sister.

Glorianny Mon 09-Jan-23 12:37:01

The depiction of the two sisters was brilliant, great writing and great acting.

TerriBull Mon 09-Jan-23 10:45:53

I thought Happy Valley was brilliant last night, Sally Wainwright's multi layered plots are riveting, only 3 series, maybe that and the long lapse was wise because it certainly hasn't gone off the way Line of Duty has.

Callistemon21 Thu 05-Jan-23 17:01:09

Smart TV technology is getting better but some sets do have poor sound quality which can be improved by connecting the set to external speaker(s)

We have a sound box.

However, I think it is a problem with some BBC drama programmes; just listening now to 'Make it at Market' and the sound is perfectly clear and distinct.

Chestnut Thu 05-Jan-23 16:54:40

NorthFace the technical information you're giving on this and other threads is very much appreciated. 🤩

Oh, it absolutely must be the last episode Callistemon21 then a comment could be made, "There's trouble at t'mill" - what could be more Yorkshire than that?

And I don't think I could cope with another series!

There's trouble down in t'Valley,
