What is all this Jewish Nazi stuff please?

volver posted a photo of Tom Bower with an arrow drawn on pointing to some picture or something in the background featuring a swastika. The implication being he is a right wing Nazi supporter and, therefore, anything he says or writes can be dismissed. I pointed out the truth.

Egg, face, volver grin

tom bower wrote a book called;

Nazi Gold: The Full Story of the Fifty-Year Swiss-Nazi Conspiracy to Steal Billions from Europe's Jews and Holocaust Survivors
Tom Bower

OK, I take it back. I should never have posted the picture.

Can I just point out that a large section of GN has spent the last few days nit-picking about what they consider to be lies and what a banyan tree looks like. And that a writer has obliquely suggested (said?) that Doria was a drug dealer who spent 10 years "away from home", and you've all got off on that.

But I posted a picture of someone with an actual swastika on their wall and you all jump to his defence.

Pot, kettle, black, tickingbird.

Here's an example of his extensive research skills.

pressgazette.co.uk/news/mail-publisher-pays-damages-to-palestinian-centre-over-grotesque-libel-in-tom-bower-serialisation/

Just shows you can’t believe all you read, and you need to check the veracity before quoting something as fact.

Have you ever considered volver that some of us on GN might be Jewish? It has nothing to do with nit picking about a tree so your arguing on this is out of order.

volver Thu 12-Jan-23 09:44:38

No, I'll not wear sackcloth and ashes about that.

The disgusting things that have been said about public figures on here, and the accusations thrown at a woman who some people think deserves all she gets because Tom Bower is such an authority on everything and never gets it wrong?

It's diabolical.

Smileless2012 Thu 12-Jan-23 09:59:38

What about the the accusations being thrown at the RF by Harry? Many of them are pretty diabolical. Some posters certainly appear to think they deserve all they get and are thrilled at the prospect that this could be the beginning of the end of the monarchy.

Not that it is.

ronib Thu 12-Jan-23 10:00:58

Volver have you visited Broughty Ferry at all? Hope you don’t mind the question but it’s a lovely place to visit if you can get out and about.

tickingbird Thu 12-Jan-23 10:33:06

Pot, kettle, black, tickingbird.

Straws, clutching, volver.

It doesn’t pay to get overly engaged. As I said up thread we are all wrong sometimes, even you.

ronib Thu 12-Jan-23 10:48:51

Do Scottish people still say ‘What a shame’? It’s all in the delivery though. My aunts perfected the technique.

🤣🤣It’s not just Scottish people who say that, with the perfect intonation to imply something totally different.

Thomas Michael Bower is a British writer and former BBC journalist and television producer. He is known for his investigative journalism and for his unauthorised biographies, often of business tycoons and newspaper proprietors. Wikipedia.

You do know that writers are notorious for putting their own profile on Wiki don't you lemsip and that if anything negative comes up they edit it?

Tom Bower has been widely criticised for his inaccuracies, his poor research and the absolute fabrication in his books. Just google Tom Bower criticism and it will all come up.
He's an opportunist who jumps on the bandwagon and uses popular opinion to make sure his books sell.

The spoof character Bob Servant hails from Broughty Ferry.
The books are very, very funny.
I didn’t like the TV show though.

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Jan-23 12:05:44

Bower’s Johnson book was very good

Sparklefizz Thu 12-Jan-23 12:18:19

Bower is certainly a lot more accurate than P. Harry who has not checked any of his "truths" at all. Every day more and more inaccuracies are discovered, and his recollections are totally wrong in quite a few cases cases - eg. being gifted an Xbox 4 years before they were invented smile

ronib Thu 12-Jan-23 12:19:24

Main points about Broughty Ferry
1. The sand dunes
2. The posh hotel tea with white tablecloth and silver with my grandmother
3. It was very windy

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Jan-23 12:23:08

Sparklefizz grin
It must be all the ganja that’s affected his memory.
I started typing that intending it as a joke; but it’s likely that there’s truth in it

Iam64 Thu 12-Jan-23 12:57:31

Memories aren’t entirely reliable. Get any sibling group together and find each remembers a key incident differently. It’s also entirely possible to ‘remember’ a particular present only to find your certainty about being 7 at that time is shot down by others.
Harry has talked about the impact of trauma on his memory. I’m not being team h - just reminding us to stay grounded and not go off on a let’s destroy this man fest.

Tom Bower the Sunday Times Bestselling author and biographer. He is a former reporter for the BBC's Panorama and a noted author for his highly critical unauthorised biographies. His subjects have included Robert Maxwell, Mohamed Al-Fayed, Gordon Brown, Simon Cowell and Richard Branson. In 2003 he won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award for Broken Dreams, an investigation into corruption in English football.
Tom lives in London.

Totally agree, when our five AC are together their recollection of family events often differ, sometimes dramatically different.

Does that imply that her ‘truth’ says the same thing?

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Jan-23 13:09:45

Quite right Iam smile
It’s just so easy to take the mickey I suppose.
I actually had to keep away from the ‘Harry Stuff’ for a while as I knew it was affecting me.
I listen to LBC a lot, and for the past week it’s been none stop.
Thankfully it seems to have died down now.
But I think it’s been a (welcome?) distraction for many in these rather rubbish times.
They are now back to talking about pre payment metres, Brexit and congestion charges on LBC 🤷‍♀️

I would agree with you if Harry wasn’t hell bent on destroying everything and everyone that used to make him tick. He doesn’t care who he hurts or that some of his recollections don’t just vary, they’re plainly untrue. His breathtaking arrogance over his drug taking may come back to bite him but I really think he believes he is somehow above the law.

I don’t think any of us are trying to destroy him.
