Not interested in the sociology of it all then ronib

It’s precisely because of the sociology of it all that I am flagging it up.

If you have heard of the expression spin on it, let’s just say you’ve been spun.

Good posts Iam64 and Callistemon.

OK volver let's turn this round. Rather than your laughing at what has been said here today, in what way do you think Harry could have put his case across better to his own family, who let's face it appear to be the ones annoying him most?
Would he not have been better putting his energies into finding a way to speak privately with them, even if they made him sign a non disclosure confidentiality type agreement?
Sadly Harry can't change what happened to him within the family in the past, but why jeopardise his future and his popularity?

I am not sure I am defending him but I cant understand how anyone is surprised. There was bound to be some impact from what happened in their childhood, I dont mean just his mothers death but all the unending mess that preceded it.

I don't think he has done the right thing writing this book nor was the Oprah interview a good idea either.

Whoever advised them this would be beneficial, the fact he didn't realise these revelations might cause problems with his family is surprising.
Perhaps it's cathartic.

The media does have a lot to answer for, living your life with the paparazzi constantly in your face from childhood wherever you go, intruding on your family, not allowing you to live a normal life must be stressful, even terrifying.

Well you are all going to have at least another five years of agonising debate on PH so I suggest you learn to pace yourselves. It’s going to get very tiring.

Iam64 Thu 12-Jan-23 21:10:05

No surprises that I agree with you Galaxy.
Awful childhood experiences, traumatic loss of mother at significant age, lack of positive male role model or empathic, nurturing parent figure to help him through what must have been a difficult adolescence.
It does seem his allegations that Camilla and others were briefing against him are based in reality.
It’s not about being ‘on his side’ etc for me, it’s about not feeling the need to be angry and blaming him for the mess the RF finds itself in,

it is hard to find any GNetter defending him.

I've been out all day but its nice to have a good belly laugh now that I'm back in.

Wonder why that is varian?

Could it be that anybody who defends him is instantly leapt on by the hordes of Harry-haters who just know everything about him and his book, without having read it?

Could it be that the people who have said they are enjoying the book are just being ignored?

Could it be that some people with a different viewpoint can't stand the unending tirades of unpleasantness so have found something else to do until "the anti-Harry gang" tire of it all?

Dearie me.... talk about selective blindness 🤣🤣🤣

In many years on the News and Politics forum of GN, I don't remember such unanimity. I have formed a rather negative opinion of Harry. I normally expect loads of other Grans to disagree, but it is hard to find a Harry supporter on GN.
Sorry, varian, your quote didn't appear above.

Joseanne Thu 12-Jan-23 19:31:01

That's interesting varian. I haven't been on GN for more than a few years, so wouldn't have spotted that. I would be more than happy to listen to a Harry supporter who can come up with some positive reasons for his having done all this, other than his own selfish wish for healing. (ie. the book, the interviews).

ronib Thu 12-Jan-23 19:12:44

The issue for me is it feels as if there’s a schedule of more books, publicity etc and that the current controversy/whirlwind hasn’t been closed down. There hasn’t been any resolution. So maybe for at least the next 5 years, it’s going to be more of the same, especially around the time of the publication dates.

I couldn't help noticing that comments on Harry and his book/interviews etc all seem to be quite critical - negative, in fact. it is hard to find any GNetter defending him.

So I thought maybe this is just Harry making himself unpopular with us old ladies, so I had a look at Mumsnet - would you believe it they seem to be of much the same opinion.

Is this a first?

Seems to be somewhat universally negative on important comments. He crossed the Rubicon with the chessman kills, IMO.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 12-Jan-23 18:49:46

Maybe. Certainly my son, similar age to H, isn’t impressed.

As my truth seems to increasingly outweigh any concept of the truth can we expect that witness evidence in court will someday include a promise to tell my truth, my whole truth and nothing but my truth?

This is an excellent argument I shall use when required! 😂😂😂😂

varian Thu 12-Jan-23 17:49:56

OK we can all, especially in retrospect, remember things differently, or as our late Queen said "recollections may vary"

But surely there is still such a thing as THE TRUTH.

Yes, I've heard of history being written by the victors, therefore one side of the story, but surely truth is true and untruth is false, even in an era of fake news?

I've managed to avoid the recent Harry interviews and wont be reading the book but I did watch the interview with Oprah Winfrey and was struck by her reference to "your truth", an expression I'd never come across before. How long has that been a "thing"?

Since the Oprah interview.

Calendargirl Thu 12-Jan-23 14:50:52

Well, it's all taking the attention away from the Charles and Camilla story.
Rebranding is in full swing!

What story?

What rebranding?

Is this some new development in the Windsor saga?

Just seen this, part of publicity for Spare on Kindle

So it’s his truth.

That sounds like a simplified description of confabulation in its medical sense.
