I could cry, he’s moving on, leaving radio 2. He’s the only one I listen too now. I can’t listen to the screeching women or the patronising Vine, Scott Mills doesn’t do it for me. So, radio 2 won’t come to this house anymore after March. Very sad.

Try Boom radio or smooth radio

merlotgran Sat 04-Mar-23 00:00:53

I felt very sad when he signed off. End of an era.

Millie22 Fri 03-Mar-23 21:50:19

Well that's it the last day.

Radio 2 is changing such a lot and not in a good way.

Speldnan Sat 21-Jan-23 09:18:45

Didn’t like Wogan either… did like Steve Wright as he stayed witty and different right to the end and his replacement is no substitute at all!

Speldnan Sat 21-Jan-23 09:16:40

Never could stand him so I’m not sorry at all.

OxfordGran Fri 20-Jan-23 17:56:43

and the sublime voice/music of Jamie Cullum, Tuesday heaven

OxfordGran Fri 20-Jan-23 17:53:37

isn’t he doing what he wants? the only worth for us, now unplugged at the wall ha ha

Is BBC Radio 2 following in the path of Marks and Spencer and failing to understand what its core customers like?

grin

M&S beauty section is amazing, why don't they push it? why don;t they make their stores with a lingerie and beauty section aimed at women...oh yeah now I understand..and then there will be the priests #FatherTed

Magrithea Fri 20-Jan-23 15:45:20

In case it hasn't been said - he is taking PopMaster with him as he was instrumental in its development

I'd like to see (ooo)Gary Davis take his place as he's the only one who has a similar manner to Ken

Susie42 Fri 20-Jan-23 12:16:23

I think the next one to go will be Johnnie Walker's Sounds of the 70s on Sunday afternoon, it's a good mixture of music and talk.

Millie22 Fri 20-Jan-23 12:15:13

I tried listening to Greatest Hits yesterday but gave up on it quite quickly and went back to Magic radio.

I know whoever is in charge of Radio 2 doesn't care but the presenters we really like are going one by one. I still miss Simon Mayo and Scott Mills is very irritating and boring.

Reading all the comments on this thread it just shows how different our preferences are. We nearly all love Ken, but although he’s the common thread, our chosen alternatives are so different. I could never stand Steve Wright myself, he irritated me and I had to switch him off, but so many seem to like him. As for Jeremy Vine - just no. I’m with you on Vernon though Shirls, he’s a mood lifter.

Shirls52000 Fri 20-Jan-23 09:44:22

Ive been a radio 2 listener for years and almost changed when Steve Wright went but this is definitely the final nail in radio 2 s coffin I m afraid for me, am moving to Greatest hits radio ( which I said I d never do) which is where Simon Mayo is and where Ken Bruce is going. On radio 2 currently there’s only Sara Cox worth listening to although I do live when Vernon Kaye sits in for Zoe Ball, only time I listen to the b’fast show now

Sasta Fri 20-Jan-23 09:02:31

You are lucky to have a good local station BlueSapphire, that was my go to when the late Janice was jettisoned from night time radio, but our local station has been long gone sadly.

Sasta Fri 20-Jan-23 08:55:06

I’m with you there gransruleok, I’m gutted the radio two I’ve loved for years has been systematically dismantled for years. Terribly sad when Terry died, but the latest host of the breakfast show is to my mind, completely ‘unlistenable’ to, awful sycophantic drivel. I know that’s not a word but I cannot even switch the morning show on. They got rid of the lovely Janice Long who I spent hours listening to during sleepless nights. Then out of the blue they got rid of Paul Jones, replacing him with an awful presenter. Then they ruined the perfect Simon Mayo’s drive time which I loved, by shoving Jo Wiley on the show with him as co presenter making a complete mess of a great show. She’s good on her own show but it ruined Simon’s then they got rid of him, an awful loss to those who loved him and his show for years. Then they get rid of Steve Wright! Now they are dumping Ken! These are terrible management decisions. It now sounds like the radio 1 I gave up in my 30s to move to great programmes on radio two. Then Paul O’Grady disappears without a word, though I read he’s been forced into a new schedule 13 weeks on 13 weeks off. I’ve always been a radio person, but the only shows worth listening to for me are Jo Wylie, Bob Harris, and I’m now fond of Sara Cox. So no more radio two for me till after 4pm. Disgruntled from the midlands 😫

JaneJudge Fri 20-Jan-23 08:30:57

I thought Ken was a bit like Terry Wogan tbh

FannyCornforth Fri 20-Jan-23 06:06:45

According to The Sun, Matt Lucas is in the running to replace Ken.
Bit odd

hicaz46 Fri 20-Jan-23 00:03:45

I going completely against the grain here by saying I cannot stand Ken Bruce and his voice (not his accent). In fact all DJs drive me mad and I much prefer talk radio and listen to Radio 4 regularly. Interesting talks, discussions, dramas, serials etc and I use Alexa or Spotify to access music without all the infantile drivel of most DJs.

BlueSapphire Thu 19-Jan-23 21:10:07

I haven't listened to Radio 2 since Terry Wogan left, and then discovered our lovely local BBC radio station. It plays a wide range of music, mainly easy listening, 60s to present day, but nothing extreme, has local news and topics, and the presenters are great, really in touch with their audience. Wouldn't listen to anything else.

jerseygirl Thu 19-Jan-23 19:57:13

Ken is moving to Greatest hits radio and he is taking Popmaster with him as he owns the rights. He will be on weekday mornings from 10 til 1pm. I will be following him and listening to him on greatest hits radio. Radio 2 is going down the pan. I will only be listening to Pick of the pops and Rylan on Saturday. Bad move radio 2. Ken is like part of the family.

Kathmaggie Thu 19-Jan-23 19:31:13

It’s my understanding Ken can take pop master with him as it was his creation. We will definitely be following him as my DH is an avid fan having been a contestant on the show twice (winning on both occasions). Everything stops for pop master in this house!

GrandmaTrisha Thu 19-Jan-23 17:48:48

I was sad when Steve Wright left that they gave the afternoon show to Scott Mills ( even though he’s since grown on me) I thought it should have gone to Oooo Gary Davis or O J Berg so now maybe they’ll get a chance, Hopefully they won’t see the need to move manic Zoe to the mid morning slot……

Susieq62 Thu 19-Jan-23 16:45:23

Smooth radio is good

Supergran1946 Thu 19-Jan-23 16:07:59

Getting so fed up with Radio 2 ! Can’t stand waking up to the gabbling of Zoe Ball every morning. The only two presenters I had any time for were Ken Bruce and Steve Wright. Like the way Jeremy Vine presents too. I want a radio show with light, popular music without adverts - any suggestions ?
