Lord of the Dance on Sky Arts
What is it about that dancing that is so fascinating?

Kate1949 Sun 22-Jan-23 16:23:06

Do you mean Irish dancing? I love it. I'm from an Irish family and we were taught it at school. Well, when I say 'taught' I could never get the hang of it. Poor Michael has cancer. Not that that has anything to do with it.

When ‘Riverdance’ first featured as an interval fill in on the Eurovision Song Contest, who would have thought it would lead to what it did?

But it was absolutely mesmerising! Michael leaping across the stage! Still gives me goosebumps if I watch it.

Did I read that the poor man has an aggressive cancer?

Anniebach Sun 22-Jan-23 17:22:31

I like to watch Riverdance on uTube.

Kate1949 Sun 22-Jan-23 17:37:53

Yes Whitewave As I said above, the poor man has cancer.

At my dads 90 th birthday party unknown to him my youngest daughter and her three girls had come over from Ireland to surprise him We had got a couple (a guitar player and a lady singer) to do a little sing song for him and during their songs they started up an Irish tune (I can’t remember which it was) and completely unexpected and unrehearsed my 3 little granddaughters started dancing as they had learnt it in school Everyone so loved it they were 6, 9 and 12
It was the highlight of my Dads little party he died two years later
Lovely memory
I m sorry Michael Flatly is so ill such a talented dancer

I’m sorry he is so ill. DH. mentioned that as soon as the programme started. I was just riveted by the performances-especially at the end.

That was astonishing - I’ve never forgotten it.

When was the programme on? I love Riverdance. The haunting music the singing the dancing. I saw it at Hammersmith Apollo Theatre as a birthday treat many years ago.

Hymn book, it was Lord of the Dance and it was on Sky Arts this afternoon. May be available on catch up.

Back in the 60s I used to go to hear show bands with my Irish friends. There would always be some children doing Irish dancing. They were amazing.

When we were discussing what we might do with a redundant village post box, someone jokingly suggested this Irish dancing ...... for some reason this really tickled me and I could not stop laughing! smile

I have Sky Arts' Lord of the Dance on my digital recorder and watch part of it several times a week. I love it so much it almost moves me to tears. I so admire the talent of the cast, how do they move their feet so fast?

Auntieflo Mon 23-Jan-23 09:44:24

We also saw Riverdance, at the Hammersmith Apollo many years ago. Just loved every minute, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it.

DH bought the tickets with a Lottery win.
The first and only time that he bought a ticket.

We saw his Feet of Flames show many years ago and it was absolutely fabulous.

River Dance is touring this year for its 25th Anniversary, I might have a look for some tickets.

When Ireland hosted the Eurovision Song Contest and the act during the interval was River Dance I thought it was so brilliant. It really made a huge change from the often tedious sets that had been performed previously.

I also saw it at the Hammersmith Apollo and it was just as fabulous.
