What advert makes you want to throw something at the telly?

There are so many. I particularly cringe at the one for Our Time dating for over 50s. I just want to punch the two simpering actors! Grrrrrr
Also, car adverts like Peugeot who think they’ll sell cars by speaking in a silly French accent.
I must be getting old!

The ones which is most of them with mixed race families.

Really? Why? Do tell

Thought I’d be controversial, but it’s true there are so many adverts with mixed race families and it’s nearly all a white woman with a black man. It is not representative of our country as a whole. You’d think we were living in Nigeria. We all have to be brainwashed. I particularly dislike the ones with black people doing silly dances - I think it is mocking.

Yes, I agree. It's almost as though every single one has to tick the boxes for the appropriate mix of races. Obviously there are many mixed race families but there are also many more made up of a single race. And every TV drama also has to have the required mix of people, be they black, white, LGBT, disabled (or the more PC "differently abled") in very different ratios to real life.

Me too! Although I thought ’Bridgerton’ was brilliantly cast - it wasn’t trying too hard to make a point

Voltarol. Anyone who has a seriously bad back does not rub this in and get relief enough to go and play golf, or whatever

Can't stand the ad for weight loss surgery which is introduced by an over-cheerful woman saying 'Hi!' Don't know why, but she really irritates me.

Lilyflower Sat 18-Feb-23 16:44:54

Daisy gets my vote too - but really, all of them

Someone else has mentioned this, but it’s the the beach holiday adverts with the boy who think it’s hilarious that his sister dropped her ice cream, the father who looks just like the gloating son, and the mum in the spotty swimming costume.

I can’t work out why someone keeps throwing flip flops at the other man though!

oldeman Sat 18-Feb-23 16:38:17

The ad for Domino pizza. Where they all shout and it echo's. It is so irritating it makes me want to NOT buy a pizza.

TanaMa Sat 18-Feb-23 16:30:32

They all do, why does everyone have to shout? So, where possible record a programme if I want to see it, then fast forward to miss the adverts.

totally agree, Sophiasnana! Also the daft SunLife ones with the older couple in the kitchen - who pops into the neighbours with post and starts rabbiting on about life insurance. The cremation ones too

As a former physio who worked in women's health for a while the Tena type ads annoy me too - IT IS NOT NORMAL (please excuse the shouting!) to leak and all women should know where their pelvic floor is, what it does and how to stop leaking!!!!!

jillyd60 Sat 18-Feb-23 16:18:27

i cant stand the Macdonalds one where everyone leaves their work desk and they all march out for a MacDonalds,

GrammarGrandma Sat 18-Feb-23 16:16:13

I basically don't see adverts.

Elie Sat 18-Feb-23 16:05:35

We buy any Car. I hate it with the stupid actors dancing around like demented clowns. If there was ever an ad that persuaded you to do the opposite - this is it.

pooohbear2811 Sat 18-Feb-23 16:04:13

been watching a few box sets on STV player lately ( cant FF through them) and the 2 McDonalds ads really ittitate me. The one for the wrap with all the veg dancing round in circles really ittitates me. With the office block one....time they all got through the queue would be home time....I mean come out where do a few hundred people all go for lunch at one time???

Sashasmum Sat 18-Feb-23 15:59:31

The worst advert for is the one showing a loo with smells coming out from it when flushed, it advertises an air freshener. Had they not noticed that the loo has a lid, so why not use it !!

InnocentBystander Sat 18-Feb-23 15:51:13

So many...
But McCain using a nauseating sanctimonious croaky voiced bloke pretending that selling greasy high calorie junk is somehow laudable and is "family".
Dyson selling massively overpriced electrical goods made in the far East as if it is somehow technology as advanced as NASA's output. It is a vacuum cleaner for God's sake and how can it possible not lose suction if it has filters that need to be cleaned?
Calgon with its laughably bad overdubbed voices telling you that not using their product will wreck your machine and make it stink. I have lived in hard water areas all my life and have dismantled older washing machines none of which had a fraction of the crap in them that their ad shows.
Boswellox, the lot of them!

Neilspurgeon0 Sat 18-Feb-23 15:44:27

The ‘Just eat’ one with the hurdles woman who looks totally bowled over by too many options. Dreadful!

What happened to ‘go to work on an egg”? Or the brilliant “Nimble” air balloon ?

LilyoftheValley Sat 18-Feb-23 15:34:04

The opera singer one, Daisy, Daisy .....................

Franbern Sat 18-Feb-23 15:28:30

mokryna - many years ago my Dad had to use pads as he suffered badly from haemahorroids, which bled badly, He could not afford to take time of work (which would have been unpaid), in order to have an operation to sort these out.

I am amazed that people get embarrassed by an advert involviong pads - do they also get so with loo roll adverts???

Bijou Sat 18-Feb-23 15:19:02

The pure cremation and equity from property, pads, perfume ones with half naked women. In fact all ads! Who takes notice of them anyway. Who buys those expensive vacuum cleaners or pods for the washing machine. Although many years ago when ads first started on TV my mother served a ready made trifle she said it was advertised on TV so must be good.
I either tape programmes or watch them on apps..

mokryna Sat 18-Feb-23 15:14:24

My ex at one tine had to wear pads, so he told our poor DD. Why don’t they advertise a man instead of a woman have problems?
Don’t like hearing rudeness and disrespect, especially from children, shows children watching low level attitudes towards others.

honeyrose Sat 18-Feb-23 15:13:22

Natalie Portman pouting and scowling at the camera saying “and you. What would you do for love?” It’s a perfume ad - goodness knows which one. Who cares? I thought we’d seen the end of that ad, but no, back it comes to irritate me all over again.

ElaineRI55 Sat 18-Feb-23 15:12:39

The old M&M one with the woman in bed with an M&M and the other one saying "Scott's home early". Creepy!

The Many Pets insurance ad with the woman crying while the dog sits there as her "therapist".

Lots more where you struggle to work out what the ad is for.
Many with people/objects flying around or crashing through walls etc.

Tenko Sat 18-Feb-23 15:07:29

Another vote for the daisy, daisy, daisy one . The girls look like they’re part of a weird cult .
Hate the holiday one with the obnoxious family , it puts me off using that company. Also hate the dating one where the guy pulls a stupid face at the painting and woman simpers into his shoulder 🤮.
Some of the car and perfume ads are so obscure, you don’t know what they’re advertising. The one where the woman drives for miles and then starts aging and is a much older woman at the end. At first I thought it was a car ad . And the Johnny depp one where he buries his jewellery in the desert 🤷‍♀️.

The BBC is for EVERYONE! - I don't think so

The BBC shows more adverts than commercial channels sometimes!
