What advert makes you want to throw something at the telly?

There are so many. I particularly cringe at the one for Our Time dating for over 50s. I just want to punch the two simpering actors! Grrrrrr
Also, car adverts like Peugeot who think they’ll sell cars by speaking in a silly French accent.
I must be getting old!

I mute all adverts apart from the one where a chap is selling potatoes (and onions) but will accept only crypto currency. For some reason, it makes me chuckle every time.

The one for , I think it's a phone, with Google Pixels. The 'model', can't pronounce her "t's" , and I could shake her.

The advert for Saga cruises. I liked Nicholas Farrell as an actor but in this advert I find him extremely annoying, so no, I won't be going on a Saga cruise, thank you.

The Riviara Cruise for mature people when the woman n chap are having dinner and she opens her mouth very wide and he proceeds to feed her something! think it's meant to be romantic yuk!

Advertisement for Sinex, yuk! We mostly record programs so can skip through the advertisements, but now and again we do run into them! We turn the sound off and find some thing to do for the duration. They're mostly awful, but Sinex, Go Compare, the dancing duo and a few others are really ghastly!

The MacDonalds one where the two women flash eyebrows at each other and then the rest of the staff. Really gets on my nerves. I would never buy from MacDonalds anyway but this would not encourage me to try.

I don't think that I want to throw stuff at the TV because I find ads an intriguing reflection on current sort of consumer "ideals" /"state of the nation" and amuses me as to what ad writers think will "work"

Its interesting that "we buy any car" was mentioned because what it does, alongside one or two others is alert me to the possibility that sites exist to do this, so it's worth "going searching".

The Flash version of "fluffy duster" makes me smile, like its something new.

The one where the women says "I'm letting it all go" with the pad advert and the Omaze ad.

Surely these adverts are being remembered for all the wrong reasons. They certainly put me off buying the products, especially the ones with annoying voice overs. 🙄
I’ve been thinking - the only advert which possibly influenced me, because it raised my awareness by simply explaining the process, getting to the point and not faffing around, was ‘We Buy Any Car’. I sold my car to them locally, with no problems, for a very good price! I’d use them again.👍😎

Greyduster I’m with you with the most dreary pets in the UK 👍
The Pets in a Pickle ads have always got my goat.
Especially the skateboarding dog, who starts the ad being an audibly small type of dog with a high pitched yap; and ends the ad sounding like a mastiff crossed with a malamute
(I must get out more!)

Greyduster Tue 21-Feb-23 10:09:58

Two really; both on radio, not tv. The man from Bri’ish Gas tellling me what they can do if my hea’in’ goes wrong; and the teeth grinding Pets in a Pickle ad with inane annecdotes of Charlie the cat and. Barney the dog! Aargh!

The life insurance one where man tells his neighbour about his life insurance company. Turns up with a load of surplus parsnips and she goes all flirty and tells him she's taken his advice and got a life insurance plan. So smug - both of them.

The One the Beach one, having experienced one of their holidays.

Go Compare - that bloody man singing.

The one where Brian Blessed shouts all the way through it - I think it's Flash.

No recording !!! What’s wrong with the thinking ? We record programmes that “might” be interesting and then try them out later on. So easy if several programmes are on at the same time. I hear from the younger members of the family that most of the viewing is streamed but go to streamed stuff when we want to but still need the terrestrial programmes.

With the new generation boxes all channels are streamed, no such animal as a terrestrial channel.

Thank you Granny. I meant of course BBC 1 and 2, ITV etc. etc. which we view as we have a Freeview aerial but with an extra button to take us to apps which are of course streamed via our wi fi. However, in another room we have a box as we don’t have an aerial for that side of the house. That is indeed dependant on our broadband.

I LOATHE Claudia Winkleman for some reason. I cannot stand to look at her face. That stupid fringe thats she presumably thinks hides her wrinkles, and lopsided grin she always has. Grrrrrrrr.

We buy any car especially when Phil Schofield was on them.
Daisy Daisy...
Perf with Surf.
Go compare
Those awful Meerkats especially now they have the dreadful Wombat with them.
On the Beach with the boy gloatingly eating his ice cream
The Omaze advert.
Tena Lady and the ad with the bloodstained towel.
However, I like the raised eyebrows McDonalds one.

Reading all these messages, just goes to show that the irritating ones are working

Jaxie Sun 19-Feb-23 16:22:48

Daisy, daisy, daisy. And I just sold my car, people jigging about as if they have St Vitus Dance. Eamon Holmes waddling along advertising, I think, some electronic item that jiggles your feet. The holiday ad with the dreadfully overweight boy stuffing his face and sneering at his sister who’s dropped her ice cream.

AshleysGran Sun 19-Feb-23 15:14:59

Nobody's mentioned all the begging ads - or maybe they don't count as "adverts"? The ones who ask us to give specific amounts (one even mentions PENCE!) for what are obviously good causes, but I can't bear to watch them, especially the ones concerned with animal cruelty.

Summerfly Sun 19-Feb-23 13:57:23

Yes Nannafizz! I agree. So flipping annoying. 😡

Shinamae Sun 19-Feb-23 09:19:42

Tamayra

Interesting you remember the Daisy Daisy one because it’s awful
But actually as far as advertising agency goes it’s succeeding in getting your notice via its awfulness
Reverse psychology!

Yes, it certainly gets my attention and a definite no-no for me to ever by their product!

Nanna58 Sun 19-Feb-23 09:19:30

The awful smarmy git on the Saga ads , who keeps banging on about the benefits of ‘ experience ‘ ! If he was on my holiday I’d do my best to literally jump ship and try to crash an 18-30 gig - couldn’t be worse!

The MacDonalds eyebrow beep beep one!!!

Tennisnan Sun 19-Feb-23 05:14:56

And they never advertise male incontinence - grrr
