Hello smile
If anyone is interested - the original play, from which the term originates, is on Radio 4 this afternoon.

And it’s directed by Johnny Vegas!

If you get the chance it's worth having a look at the original 1940 film, the one with Anton Walbrook and Diana Wynyard. It's closer to the play than the Charles Boyer/Ingrid Bergman one from four years later.

Scandalously, MGM bought the rights to the earlier film and tried to buy the negative and all existing prints in order to destroy them. So I'm all for the 1940 version getting all the attention it can. It's available on DVD and to stream from Amazon Prime.

Kudos to Johnny Vegas for this radio revival.

Thanks Fanny. I love a good podcast while I'm doing my jigsaws.

It was very enjoyable.
I had not seen the film so was unaware of the wider story.
It was a modern reimagining.
To me, it was rather reminiscent of An Inspector Calls.
I’ll need to listen again as I was doing housework (boo!) at the same time

I saw a production of “Gaslight” on stage at Watford Palace Theatre a few years ago which DD designed, set within the context/backstory of a Women’s Refuge.

A play-within-a-play set in a women’s refuge, this production of Patrick Hamilton’s “Gaslight” boasts an all-female cast. The cast are all escaping domestic abuse at home and perform Hamilton’s classic thriller in the living room of their refuge while stage directions are read out through a microphone in true Brechtian style

It’s a compelling play.
