suddenly. no real reason given.
anyone live in twickenham or work in greggs there with an ear on the ground as to why ?

BlueBelle Tue 28-Feb-23 06:22:29

I did listen to him Fanny in and out of sleep I think the main reason I listened was to get away from a nighttime of politics and disasters he was lightweight and also I was in disbelief at a lot of things he said I could not believe no one picked him up

Peartree I can never think of him as a poor old man he was cruel to many people, he s a braggart, he puts people down he sneers , hes a sad old man who only got his importance out of making cruel fun out of anyone he took a dislike to

Mr Patel the many people who followed and enjoyed his ‘sense of humour’ and are plaguing you now are the same people who enjoy racist or sexist jokes and then accuse those that don’t of being ‘woke’

Holly “poor Benny Hill” another awful man same kind of humour, perverted, sexist and unkind

I m off now going to think of happier things

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Feb-23 01:06:28

Oh gawd. Richard Spurr is on now 🥱
Holly the only thing that I can suggest is Audible.
There’s nothing worth listening to overnight are the moment.
The World Service is too hit and miss to have on all night

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Feb-23 01:02:34

Hello Holly
Did you see the post from Mr Patel? shock

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Feb-23 01:00:46

Hello Mr Patel
Thank you for posting.
Good heavens! So Twickenham high street has been inundated with disappointed and angry fans of Steve.
How annoying and rather scary for you, Paul Cooper, Sandys etc.
This is Global’s fault (Steve’s ex-employer) for treating Steve and his fans so shabbily. They owed their listeners some sort of explain and a chance to say goodbye to Steve.
Please be assured that no one on this site would resort to such irresponsible behaviour.
I hope that things calm down and the you get some peace and normality back soon
Best wishes to you

hollysteers Tue 28-Feb-23 00:56:42

Well I’m going to really miss him Fanny, I’m shocked. For all his faults, many and varied, repeating himself, too many “Thank you very much!”, getting things wrong and irrational hatreds, including disparaging any region outside London, certainly was light entertainment. He is a one off and I never took him seriously.
I had him on the night as I have trouble sleeping and could just drift off with his inanities droning on in the background.

So many presenters only seem to cover political matters, which I don’t want for relaxing and sleeping purposes. Mick’s shopping routine etc was just the job.
I found Darren Adam incredibly boring and I’m afraid Cristo was just not up to the job. Ferrari blows his own trumpet and interrupts too much. Nick Abbot is wonderful but not when he goes on about politics. Clive is related to Darren, nice but rather boring. Who am I going to listen to?
I too worry about Steve, the shows being his whole life.
It’s like poor Benny Hill all over again, sacked and then what?

PatelMamood2 Mon 27-Feb-23 23:16:48

Sorry thank you kindly

PatelMamood2 Mon 27-Feb-23 23:15:54

Evening, Quixk google led me here but I am a retailer on the king rd, strawberry hill (pack&send) I have been inundated with fans of Steve Allen calling and coming into my shop the past two days. We had over 500 descend into our high street enquiring about him. Frankly I don’t know anything and we retailers plea with fans to please go, leave our place and the man alone. I know nothing, sandy nor coopers know anything. Please leave him alone, and us. He’s not a well man and we ask you respect his privacy at his time.

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 10:57:28

Peartree (excuse me while a step daintily onto my soap box smile)
Steve himself made his career out of knowing everything about people he didn’t like!
So I’m just carrying on the tradition.
In fact it’s something of a national sport.
See also Harry & Meghan.
I think that most of his listeners had a similar love / hate relationship with him.

And to be fair, I don’t think that BlueBelle actually listened to him much, it’s me who is the weirdo grin

Peartree Mon 27-Feb-23 10:21:23

I am shocked that he has gone he was but I wont be getting on my soap box about how horrible he was. It seems the people on here who didnt like him seem to know a lot about him! If I dont like someone I wouldnt listen to them like the one who has taken his place I just find him irritating and switch off. I must find another station to listen too.

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 09:47:16

The Leicester Square Theatre show was cancelled on Friday.
No explanation given, and no refunds either apparently

BlueBelle Mon 27-Feb-23 09:25:20

I m not a staid person I like a good joke as much as anyone and I often tell them against myself (get in before anyone else does😂) the odd funny remark is fine
Allen had prolonged and daily (wouldn’t let it drop ) attacks on whoever was not the flavour of the week (in his head) and it was all passed off in ‘what a good, generous, jolly, lovable man I am’ and thousands fell for it That is what I find so dangerous he had a huge following of people who believe it’s alright and funny to be cruel to people Well it’s not humour it’s darn right viciousness and I m utterly surprised he’d never been sued before

Sorry to go on but it is so important that it doesn’t become normal or admired to put people down about every tiny imperfection they have…. he was poisonous

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 09:04:39

Sam Smith’s podcast for Global.

‘My advice would be don’t book him.
Don’t interview him.
Don't let him publicise anything.
Don’t give him the opportunity to make himself look stupid’

Steve Allen
Friday 17 March approx 4.10 am

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 08:45:40

Exactly, BlueBelle, I was thinking the exact thing myself yesterday. It could definitely be seen as karma.

Even after Sarah Harding’s diagnosis, he was still being slyly unpleasant about her.
He said some awful things about Caroline Flack too.
And the Katie Price stuff was just unhinged

If it was the case that it was his comments about Sam Smith that finally did for him (I can’t think that it was anything else) then it’s maddening that he got away with being so awful to women for god knows how long; but it’s not allowed to be ‘mean’ to a gender neutral male.

I wonder if Sam Smith has links with Global? 🤔 They have loads of contemporary music stations

BlueBelle Mon 27-Feb-23 08:19:50

(I worry for his mental health)
I wonder how much he worried about all the people he lambasted I wonder if he worried about Tamsin Ramsey, Gemma Collins Katie price, Matt goss, Peter Andre, Meghan and so on I wonder how much he worried about their mental health while he rubbed his hands on the way to his bank He was cruel and continuous not just the odd remark he went on and on

There is far too much nastiness in the world, especially in this country, he was/ is poison
You reap what you sow

(*Would you mind telling us why?*
Fleurpepper just read the thread )

FindingNemo15 Mon 27-Feb-23 08:00:47

Fanny. Yes that is right Charlie Wolf, could not stand him either. I think I might be getting some presenters mixed up with Talk Radio.

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 07:52:29

Thank you, I am something of a speech radio anorak!

TopsyIrene06 Mon 27-Feb-23 07:40:47

Thanks Fanny. I shall look forward to listening to Darren's podcast. I bow to your superior knowledge on all things Global and thankful for it.

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 07:29:28

Darren had a really good website that I discovered a few weeks back when I was trying to find out where he was.
But that’s not available now either 🤷‍♀️

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 07:16:36

As promised, here is the link for Darren’s podcast about Icelandic news and culture.
www.ruv.is/english/2023-01-26-the-ruv-english-podcast-the-week-in-iceland-also-returns

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 07:08:50

Irene I’m so annoyed about Darren too, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was what he actually wanted. It must have been a pain going backwards and forwards to Edinburgh.
I think that he’s in Iceland now.
I’ll see if I can find that link I mentioned.

I’ve been reading the thread about Steve on Digital Spy.
The live show is for Make Some Noise, so is entirely a Global thing.
So it’s a distinct possibility that Global decided for it not to go ahead.
An ‘insider’ has mentioned that Global is very generous with its ex employees, and has suggested that Steve may be recompensed for keeping schtum.

Poor Ian must have been inundated with texts about Steve today.
I texted him myself about Molly Mai and Tommy Fury’s baby (Bambi. Bambi Fury) but he didn’t read it out sad

TopsyIrene06 Mon 27-Feb-23 06:52:46

I think if his show was cancelled, I will worry a little more about him. I sincerely hope that his family and friends (and neighbour Lynne whom he talks about sometimes?) are keeping an eye on him.
I thought he was is so inappropriate on many/all levels and of course they couldn't keep him broadcasting but please let him be OK on a human level.
Now, Darren's absence is another one of my rages. I suppose I don't know the whole story because I drift off to sleep during his show but I enjoyed greatly what I heard.
If Nick Abbot goes, please all pray for me.

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 06:37:15

It was at the Leicester Square Theatre yesterday at 3pm.
I can’t find out whether it went ahead or not.
He hasn’t posted on Twitter since he issued the statement on Friday

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 04:30:16

TopsyIrene06

BlueBelle Nick Abbot is the very best and so clever. Ditto, my opinion on NF.

*Fanny *I didn't read the rest of the thread before I rapidly pm'd you - sorry. Lovely to have so many fans of LBC. Interesting isn't it how Steve Allen managed to draw me in. Like you all, I had a love/ mainly hate relationship with him. Fundamentally flawed but somehow had a huge audience. I wonder whether he will continue with his stage show on 26 February. I doubt it but would certainly worry about his state of mind given the news.

TopsyIrene is missed that you’d mentioned his live show!
Was it really supposed to be yesterday?
Can you remember the name of the theatre?
I can’t see how he could have managed to do it

FannyCornforth Mon 27-Feb-23 04:10:47

FP we’ve gone into great detail on Steve’s ‘presenting style’ already on the thread.

A poster upthread asked about presenters who have left.
There are literally dozens of them!

You were thinking of Charlie Wolf. I can’t remember him being on LBC, but he was on Talk Radio on the mid 90s. He was an originally shock jock. I couldn’t stand him.

The ‘Greek man’ is Cristo Foufas. As I mentioned upthread, Steve was disgusting to him.
Cristo is now on Talk at the weekend early slot. He is also a TV producer and an all round good egg

All though I have some time for Steve, I definitely won’t be signing the petition.

I don’t think that Global should have got rid of him the way that they did (I worry for his mental health).

I wish that they’d given him a weekend show. That was the way for him to bow out slowly.
But personally, I don’t want him back, no.

There is no way that Global will have him back. They’ve made that clear in the way that have unceremoniously ‘given him his sandwiches wrapped in a road map’, as James O’Brien would say
