Thank you for reviving a thread I'd missed. Just about to start watching on Drama (free).

I'm ashamed to say I don't know Dickens very well, find him a pain to read, apart from A Christmas Carol, so I'll have to Google some of the characters. It'll be good for me.

It always gives me a start to see Peter Firth - I first fell in love with him as one of the Flaxton Boys! Tempora mutantur - mutor in illis without a doubt!!

That's very clever! I made a topic about this quite some time ago. I'm blanking on the device I used to see it. Probably a member of Amazon Prime. But, the timing seems off because of how Christmas-y it is. drift hunters

Thanks annie
I’ve got that TV magazine (being the only Daily Mail reader on GN)

Littleannie Sun 26-Feb-23 12:27:33

Every Saturday I get an email from the Daily Mail TV listing magazine, which details all the highlights of the following weeks' programmes on all channels and streaming services. It is definitely listed as being on UKTV from Tuesday next week. It probably won't show up there until Tuesday.

You do not have to pay for UKTV. It is free. You get it as an app on your tablet. Or as an app on your smart TV in the same place and way as the other catch up apps like BBC I-player or All4 or My5 or ITVX etc. It carries programmes from Yesterday, Drama, W and Dave channels. You do have to watch adverts though.

I also bought my Dad the DVD for Christmas for about a fiver on Amazon

Littleannie

For anybody who missed it originally, it is to be repeated on UKTV play from Tuesday.

Can you send a link or explain how to get this as it's a mystery.

FannyCornforth Sun 26-Feb-23 11:19:15

Yes. I got it on Prime and you can also get it on Apple but it’s much more expensive

Chestnut Sun 26-Feb-23 11:18:19

It's not available for free on UKTV Play. You have to pay through various channels but goodness knows which ones as I don't have any of them.

FannyCornforth Sun 26-Feb-23 11:08:21

I can’t find any mention of Dickensian and UKTV.
I bought it on Amazon Prime for £7.99 which is still an absolute bargain

Chestnut Sun 26-Feb-23 11:07:27

UKTV Play is a free streaming channel which includes Dave, Drama, W and Yesterday (they are all TV channels if you didn't know). I think you need to register but its all free and you should be able to get it on your TV, located with the other catchup channels like iPlayer etc.

They should have made another series. What’s UKTV? Does it have a number? ( I will Google it). Did anyone see Rick Steins Cornwall where they realised that the mines mentioned in A Christmas Carol were Cornish tin mines and not northern coal mines. Dickens had visited the tin mines prior to writing the book.

Sparklefizz Sun 26-Feb-23 10:56:44

UKTV is a subscription channel, isn't it?

FannyCornforth Sun 26-Feb-23 10:54:09

It was. I think that I’ve watched it three times now, and I enjoy it more with every viewing.
The casting is brilliant.
The chap who plays Sykes is perfect.
And the final scene… 😍

Sparklefizz Sun 26-Feb-23 10:47:08

I wouldn't mind watching it again because I thought it was brilliant and so clever.

FannyCornforth Sun 26-Feb-23 10:43:05

Oh it’s brilliant! I started a thread about it a while ago.
I can’t remember which platform I watched it on. Amazon Prime I think.
It’s very Christmassy though, so it’s odd timing.
