New series started last night. Looking good.

real really

Just getting to the end of the natter I flagged up above and apparently Mia's mum and Tony's wife let them know last week that they have been following the natters.

John Scott also came up with a real good idea for a different type of "Transformation Challenge".

The "chat" group of professionals I mentioned earlier have recorded their conversation about the final.

Very interesting and the guests include a previous contestant.

Athrawes

I loved this programme. I used to make a lot of clothes for me and the children but this was another realm - very impressive. I felt it was obvious who was going to win but the two runners up were very talented in their own way and should be very proud of themselves. It was nice to see family members involved at the end. Amazing double garments!

I also used to do lots of sewing, even making my sons' shirts and dungarees. Can't believe I did that now. I must brush the dust of my sewing machine and have another go. Trouble is, I wonder if my main motive, being saving money, would be the case nowadays, given how relatively cheap clothes have become.

The whole series was excellent. I think the presenter worked really well and I just adore Esme!

Agree the dress Asmaa made was fabulous. Such talent, what a lady.
Tony and Mia good runners up.
Love this program.

Sorry everyone

What a talented lady, her final dress was unbelievable. Each year this programme renews my enthusiasm for sewing, but sadly like Troglodite medical conditions prevent me from furthering what had been a major hobby. Though this year I was inspired to make two cushion covers! Gone are the days when nothing daunted me and my trusty Singer.

Asmaa’s life has been unbelievable so far (for anyone who doesn’t know)

The winning dress was unbelievable!

Yes, midgey, the way it unfurled was beautiful and sensual, and neither dress looked lumpy as if another dress was stuffed underneath.

Asmaa said that winning Bee was her biggest achievement, but she is a breast cancer surgeon and that must surely be her major achievement ... I feel that most strongly as a breast cancer survivor. I was very pleased indeed to hear that she makes bras for mastectomy patients.

However I don’t particularly like the Presenter who followed the pattern of the presenters on The Great British Bake Off, with inane jokes and silliness.

Yes, NanKate, the presenter (Sara Pascoe) is awful, and if I were under pressure with a lot more sewing to do and only 10 minutes in which to finish, I would feel like "accidentally" sticking her with a few pins when she stops by to make silly comments.

This is a chat among sewing professionals which I found really added to my Sewing Bee enjoyment. This one was after the semi-final, but you should be able to track them back to the pre-series chat and each episode if you put "House of Alistair" in the search bar on YouTube.

At the time of writing the one following the final has not yet been published.

There are the two hosts and each week there are one or two guests, all from the sewing world, some of whom are previous "bees" or have worked on the programme.

Yes Sparklefizz the Final was great.

I’m new to this series and only saw the last two episodes. I shall certainly watch the next series.

However I don’t particularly like the Presenter who followed the pattern of the presenters on The Great British Bake Off, with inane jokes and silliness.

The winning dress was unbelievable! Absolutely stunning as so clever. The right person won…..I predicted during the first show.

Shirleyw Thu 27-Jul-23 21:10:26

Yes, enjoyed it very much, and yes, the right person won……

lixy Thu 27-Jul-23 20:55:33

Yes, I saw the last bit. Amazing sewing in such a short time, and I felt the right person won.

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Jul-23 20:33:58

Wow! Anyone watched the Final?

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jul-23 14:11:01

Good news, Troglodite
I used to sew a lot, I think I made the first dress for myself at 14 (I did make a wearable skirt in junior school but that was all by hand!) and sewed for years, for the children too.
It was cheaper than buying in those days.

Have you tried crochet, Troglodite? I find it's a bit easier on the arms and shoulders than knitting now.

Chardy Tue 25-Jul-23 13:33:11

Troglodite that's excellent news

Troglodite Tue 25-Jul-23 13:20:16

I used to enjoy making clothes - made myself a coat once and exOH a “proper” shirt as well as skirts, dresses. Also loved knitting.
But Arthur Ritis joined me. Put paid to sewing. Can’t even thread a needle now. GBSB lets me back into the joys of creating things. My imagination was nothing like these guys but the satisfaction at the end .....
Until recently, knitting was off the menu but, last year, was prescribed a new med and am back with the knitting needles!

DamaskRose Tue 25-Jul-23 12:40:53

I prefer the imagination and the improvement week on week of the Mia and Tony to the perfection of Asmaa.

MiniMoon Thu 20-Jul-23 16:17:49

Asmaa's boiler suit was fabulous. I loved the subtly sparkly material she chose. She ought to win all things being equal.
