Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

Seriously. Do some posters believe Michael Jackson innocently shared his bed with little boys

eazybee Mon 29-May-23 18:21:46

Presenters have a public face and a private one and I am astonished that so many people of mature years believe them to be one and the same.
What exactly is PS supposed to have done, other than had a relationship with a man whom he first met when a teenager? Where does all this talk of grooming and coercion come from? Is it from this man himself? Are there any proven facts? And if his colleagues all had suspicions about him, why did they rush to support him when he came out but are now screaming about bullying and discrimination?

No, but I do believe the young man in question should be in charge of the narrative, not the media, now. Schofield has lost his livelihood, which is as it should be, and he will be prosecuted if there is evidence. However the young man has the right to keep it private if that’s what he wants to do.

Kate1949 Mon 29-May-23 18:27:15

eazybee Maybe because some did go to the ITV bosses (allegedly) and nothing was done as Schofield was their biggest star. They were afraid of losing their jobs. Now they are not.

If there isn’t something extremely serious behind it all, ITV are being very foolish and reckless by damaging their entire reputation; loosing swathes of viewers; and huge chunks of their advertising revenue.

As I mentioned up thread, many advertisers have already pulled out.

I don’t recall a previous TV scandal of a similar scale to this

Well said, Anniebach. As regards this entire issue, the bottom line is that I don't know the truth of it, and neither do they. The difference? I'm prepared to admit it, and to wait and see if any hard evidence emerges. Far too much here is an ugly mixture of rumour, inference, speculation, gossip, innuendo, and hearsay. I don't want any part of it, thanks.

Forsythia Mon 29-May-23 18:37:57

Something or someone has triggered this. I am wondering, if I am allowed, whether what he said when he disowned his brother has something to do with it. Has somebody been triggered? Offended by his obvious hypocrisy?

I’ve never known anything like this before apart from the Saville saga.

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 18:39:51

NanaDana so why do you think that ITV has gone into total meltdown mode?
Gossip?

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 18:44:32

Forsythia why was his comments about his brother hypocrisy?

No comparison between this and the Saville affair but you certainly see them as equally important

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 18:50:29

Philip said that he ‘no longer had a brother’

Which is pretty grim in itself

I’m finding this discussion increasingly infuriating

MerylStreep Mon 29-May-23 18:50:50

Forsythia
We didn’t know we had a male family member who had an unhealthy interest in young boys until we found out.

Forsythia Mon 29-May-23 18:51:09

I didn’t say that AnnieBach. You need to read my post carefully. I said that I’d never seen so much outrage, if you’d call it that, since Saville. Not of equal importance or comparing like with like. It’s the fact that it’s on the news, in all media etc. please correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t recall anything similar. Do you?

Hypocrisy- if the brother and he were both grooming young boys then yes there is hypocrisy in his statement. If being the operative word.

A few weeks ago it was all about a feud with Holly. It has morphed into something entirely different very quickly.

Sorry if you don’t agree.

Doodledog Mon 29-May-23 18:51:51

Well if people see a young man being treated as this boy has (and he also lost his job on TM, don't forget) and consider it to be less important than PS losing his job, I find it quite depressing, but we will have to agree to differ.

If these were empty allegations, PS would not have been fired - he was a very big draw. There would not have been all the noise from numerous TV and radio channels, from newspapers, from online sources and so on. Advertisers would not have pulled out of sponsorship of the show, people entirely unconnected to This Morning would not be adding their voices, and PS's very expensive PR team would be springing into action, not distancing themselves. PS is an extremely wealthy man, and would be suing anyone who made unsubstantiated allegations. Mumsnet, Gransnet, Tattle and YouTube would not be allowing threads to stay up.

I have nothing more to add. All the information is out there if people want to find it and judge for themselves as to its authenticity, and as has been said, it will all come out sooner or later anyway.

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 18:53:50

And Holly had to go along with it for the sake of her career
She is a brand ambassador for M&S and Garnier, which she will now be waving bye bye to

Forsythia Mon 29-May-23 18:55:50

Agreed DoodleDog.

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 19:03:40

Forsythia you missed ‘if’ in you post claiming hypocrisy, thank you for including it in your reply

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 19:04:56

Yes, agreed Doodledog and Forsythia
I won’t be commenting further either.
I’m sick of repeating myself and asking people to do some research

So thanking a poster is passive aggressive !

Exactly Fanny - well said.
I have been taken to task for using the word ilk - but I stand by that and it's meaning is "people who are similar or like minded". Schofield has had the input of similar or like minded people in his search for meeting young boys and then going on to allegedly groom them.

I have also been questioned about my use of the word accuse. Well, for those that don't know anyone can be accused - and not just in a court of law. Accusations/allegations (call it what you will) have been flying around regarding Schofield now for some years- this certainly isn't news. But like Fanny upthread said I will happily donate to charity either way when it all does eventually come out.

One more thing (#Columbo) - Eamonn Holmes is doing an expose on GB News tonight at 9.00. He has tweeted that he wants to expose a coercive controller.

Primrose53 Mon 29-May-23 19:44:04

GB News Channel tonight at 9pm. Eamonn Holmes spilling the beans with Dan Wootton both of whom reported Schofield ages before all this and were told it was malicious gossip.

Forsythia Mon 29-May-23 19:46:05

I’ve just read Eamonn Holmes twitter feed. He is a brave man I think.

Wow! Yes, but I suppose that we will be accused of ‘making stuff up’, as opposed to listening to people who have worked in the industry for decades 🤦‍♀️

Forsythia

I’ve just read Eamonn Holmes twitter feed. He is a brave man I think.

His lawyers have had time to clear anything he plans to say. If it is untrue they won't let it go out.

Eamonn is a professional journalist, and knows what he can and can't say.
