Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

Thanks for the precise Fanny.

What I have learned from all this is that whilst I always disliked Schofield, and I had no idea why and certainty rarely saw him, now I know my gut feeling of distaste was fully justified.

I obviously have no taste as I used to like him.
But I've very rarely watched GM.

I’ve always liked him too. I have a lot of respect for people that work on tv as hosts or link people because a lot of people think it’s easy but it isn’t and not many people could do it.

His wife just looks so very happy in the photos circulating online of their holiday together in South Africa. She obviously thought the world of him and my heart goes out to her in all of this ......

I’m pleased it was so nice Maddy

Maddy in a nutshell - allegations of underage grooming; bullying; ITV top brass being complicit and all other sorts of nastiness

maddyone Wed 31-May-23 11:07:13

Oh thank you Fanny, we had a lovely break and it was nice to be away from everything for a day or two. Met some lovely people, visited Amsterdam and Bruges, and although we’ve been to both before, it was a nice change. I’ll have to read the thread later, but we both just felt when we returned and put on the news, oh God, it’s still all over the news!

FannyCornforth Wed 31-May-23 11:02:41

I hope that you had a lovely break maddy smile

There is lots of information on the thread which will answer your questions on why it’s an ongoing news story of great interest

I haven’t got time today to read the whole thread now as it appears to be 16 pages long, and I’ve got two small boys coming after lunch till Thursday evening. I’m just going straight to the end of a few threads before getting on with stuff.

Yes tickingbird an outside agency should look into it and that agency should be the police.

I agree.

There is a lot of speculation and it needs to be investigated properly.
ITV bosses need to look at the alleged culture of bullying too.

I’ve never really watched This Morning since Richard and Judy left. But when my children were little I watched it all the time. Ditto the children’s Saturday morning programmes. I really believed that Schofield only came out when he announced it live on tv and, up until then he had been loyal to his wife. And I realise someone can convince themselves that someone is telling the truth even when the evidence is there because they don’t want to believe it. I feel very let down. Even tainted in some way sad. And angry, too.

No Doodle I’ve just got back from a short four night cruise so not really up to date except that Schofield is still all over every news programme.

Well, the objection that it is 'just a hyped up story' has been covered in detail several times, so it might be an idea to read it before deciding that it doesn't matter.

There’s a huge IF there though isn’t there Callistemon and if there’s a question to be answered it’s the police who should be looking into it, without the trial by media that’s going on. I’ve never particularly liked Schofield, don’t know why, but I don’t, and I’ve never watched This Morning because it seems a trite and irrelevant programme to me (but I understand others enjoy it, so fine) I’m just fed up of turning on the news and it’s the first item, as of there wasn’t a war on in Ukraine or other important things going on. We went on a short cruise (4 nights) and when we came back it was still the number one item on the news.

tickingbird Wed 31-May-23 10:48:34

I don't watch either but if yet another one-time children's entertainer who also started a theatre group for children is guilty of grooming an under-age child - and this is only alleged of course - then it is in the public interest.

Exactly Callistemon

I don’t watch daytime tv but there’s a reason this story is being covered extensively. There needs to be a thorough investigation by an outside agency.

Never watch This Morning, I don’t care less about this hyped up story that’s nothing to do with me and I wish the media would stop the feeding frenzy on it. Totally bored by whole thing.

Have you read the thread, maddie?

Just as an aside, because it has been a particular obsession of mine for a few years now; this thread has now joined the legion of threads which don’t appear in the Active List as they should

GrammarGrandma Wed 31-May-23 10:33:44

I don't watch daytime TV but I sort of know who he is and always rather liked the look of him. His orientation is his own affair but he does seem to have behaved badly.

FannyCornforth Wed 31-May-23 10:30:16

Yes, Doodledog. ITV big wigs are being questioned about the events during a Culture, Media and Sports Select Committee meeting on Thursday.

So ITV top brass continually denying they knew anything is blown out of the water. I still don’t understand why go to so much trouble to protect Phillip Schofield.

Maybe because they’re also protecting others who are involved themselves. They’ve probably all got their little secrets.

Doodledog Wed 31-May-23 09:36:51

Half the time we don't even know it's happening. It's things like Phil and Holly hugging through plastic and standing/sitting well apart. I'm struggling for more examples as believe it or not I don't watch it grin. Diet items? Fashion divided into 'skinny' and 'plus size'? Questions about whether smokers or drinkers should get free NHS treatment - that sort of thing.

I agree that it probably shouldn't happen - like most people I am ok with it when they support things I agree with, but hate it when I don't wink, but it happens all over the media. Even the Archers was originally a vehicle for government messages to farmers during (or maybe just after) the war.
