Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

Forsythia
We didn’t know we had a male family member who had an unhealthy interest in young boys until we found out.

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 18:50:29

Philip said that he ‘no longer had a brother’

Which is pretty grim in itself

I’m finding this discussion increasingly infuriating

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 18:44:32

Forsythia why was his comments about his brother hypocrisy?

No comparison between this and the Saville affair but you certainly see them as equally important

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 18:39:51

NanaDana so why do you think that ITV has gone into total meltdown mode?
Gossip?

Forsythia Mon 29-May-23 18:37:57

Something or someone has triggered this. I am wondering, if I am allowed, whether what he said when he disowned his brother has something to do with it. Has somebody been triggered? Offended by his obvious hypocrisy?

I’ve never known anything like this before apart from the Saville saga.

NanaDana Mon 29-May-23 18:37:08

Well said, Anniebach. As regards this entire issue, the bottom line is that I don't know the truth of it, and neither do they. The difference? I'm prepared to admit it, and to wait and see if any hard evidence emerges. Far too much here is an ugly mixture of rumour, inference, speculation, gossip, innuendo, and hearsay. I don't want any part of it, thanks.

If there isn’t something extremely serious behind it all, ITV are being very foolish and reckless by damaging their entire reputation; loosing swathes of viewers; and huge chunks of their advertising revenue.

As I mentioned up thread, many advertisers have already pulled out.

I don’t recall a previous TV scandal of a similar scale to this

eazybee Maybe because some did go to the ITV bosses (allegedly) and nothing was done as Schofield was their biggest star. They were afraid of losing their jobs. Now they are not.

Seriously. Do some posters believe Michael Jackson innocently shared his bed with little boys

No, but I do believe the young man in question should be in charge of the narrative, not the media, now. Schofield has lost his livelihood, which is as it should be, and he will be prosecuted if there is evidence. However the young man has the right to keep it private if that’s what he wants to do.

eazybee Mon 29-May-23 18:21:46

Presenters have a public face and a private one and I am astonished that so many people of mature years believe them to be one and the same.
What exactly is PS supposed to have done, other than had a relationship with a man whom he first met when a teenager? Where does all this talk of grooming and coercion come from? Is it from this man himself? Are there any proven facts? And if his colleagues all had suspicions about him, why did they rush to support him when he came out but are now screaming about bullying and discrimination?

The Schofield business is being reported on PM on R4, as it was this morning on the respected Today programme.
I doubt that it’s due to us chatting about it here, on a tiny social media site

Yes you are right no one should have the power to coerce others or to silence others who try to speak out. It is hard to think of Jimmy Saville and to know now just how much he got away with how he managed that nobody knows. I always remember watching J.S. on Top of the Pops when I was a child at home with my brothers we liked listening to the music. I never liked J.S. back then and thought he was an old pervert which it turned out he was.

I don't know much about the young man P.S. was friendly with only that there was a big age gap. Perhaps the young man thought he was in love after all many relationships have big age gaps just as long as he was over the age of consent then that is their own business.

Smileless Yes you are right I remember the case now but it upset M.J. a great deal as he said he had no interest in the boy in a sexual way if I remember correctly the boy and his family got a huge pay-out for stories etc. so they made their money which is sometimes what much of this sort of thing is about.

I'm sure someone posted earlier that this young man's relationship with PS wasn't his first, if so I'm not sure what him being groomed by PS has to do with it.

Eh? I have no idea whether he had previous sexual experience, but am I understanding you right? Are you saying that only virgins can be victims of predators?

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 18:02:34

If I’m proven wrong I will donate £100 to a children’s protection charity.
And I will do exactly the same if I’m proven right.

If , as been reported , the young man was 18 years old what is there to keep quiet about ?

That’s just what Schofield has said.

It is not just Schofield saying it, the young man’s lawyers have confirmed he was of age too. I posted this fact previously.

Smileless2012 Mon 29-May-23 17:54:58

I agree Annie.

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 17:53:45

Going by the comments on this thread , little wonder why ‘he didn’t come clean’

Kate1949 Mon 29-May-23 17:50:35

The This Morning episode where he 'came out' was toe curlingly cringeful. They take viewers for fools.

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 17:46:48

And to quote Mandy Rice Davies, ‘well, he would, wouldn’t he?’

If all was above board, why didn’t Schofield come clean when he ‘chose’ (!) to come out?

Kate1949 Mon 29-May-23 17:44:34

I couldn't care less whether PS is gay or not but I'm not sure I agree that it is his own private business. He has sold himself to viewers as one thing but is clearly not that person at all. I think that is the business of his 'fans' who like him for being who they thought he was.

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 17:41:06

Sorry but ‘May we’ll have been younger’ is so unjust, I dislike
Schofield and stopped watching the programme when John Leslie left, but all these accusations on this thread are based on
‘May well have been younger’

Smileless2012 Mon 29-May-23 17:39:24

Kate1949 Mon 29-May-23 17:38:57

The young man has 'disappeared' from all social media. Schofield hid whatever happened as he wanted to perpetuate the 'Mr Perfect Family Man' image. I get the feeling, although I may be proved wrong, that this young man is going to tell his story in the coming days/weeks.
